  • Murano Glass Chandelier

Whether something is modern for 80 years or modern beyond its years, the date when it was made is not as relevant as how and why it was designed. The Murano Chandelier (1920) is made with a glass-forging technique developed to amplify flickering candlelight in the 17th century. Produced on the island of Murano, it represents the grandeur of centuries-old craftsmanship. Dramatic in its scale, color and delicate filigree, the design is a reproduction of a Venetian-style chandelier, with scrolling leaf and flower motifs. Due to the artisan craftsmanship that goes into each chandelier, some of the joints will show clear pieces of glass. This is not a defect but part of the process that insures no two pieces will be exactly the same. UL Listed. Bulbs (not included): incandescent 40W/120V/E12/torpedo. Made in Italy.

When manufacturing challenges brought the threat of closure, Peter Bowles stepped in and purchased the company. As part Original BTC, which Bowles founded, Davey Lighting now supplies marine, industrial and decorative lighting to residential and contract customers – making Davey available to the public (instead of only to the trade) for the first time. Most people are familiar with Danish designer Verner Panton for his S-shaped chair and op-art environments, but his Fun Lamps (1964) are equally iconoclastic. One of the most sought-after modern lighting designs at auction today, the Fun Lamps give modernism a decorative dimension without being cute – think of them as functional jewelry for interiors. The cascading design is composed of hand-cut mother of pearl discs, which make wonderful musical sounds when stirred by a breeze. These lamps have an ethereal presence, with light shining through the discs to produce a warm, opulent glow. Bulb (not included): incandescent E26. Made in Denmark. Each lamp is stamped with Panton’s signature and comes with a certificate of authenticity. UL listed and suitable for commercial use. Ships flat to avoid tangling; assembly required.
  • George Nelson Bubble Pendant - Lantern
    shophorne.com
First designed in 1947, the George Nelson Bubble Lamp Collection has stood the test of time. The simple structural shapes with the innovative use of taut plastic over fine steel wire were born from George Nelson's frustration to buy a Swedish-made silk lamp which produced a soft light. This unique use of shape and material produces a diffused light that is free of glare while offering an abundance of illumination. These pieces are part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and remain icons in modern lighting. Modernica discovered these designs and reintroduced the series in 1989 with a dedication to reproducing these stunning, classic lights with authenticity and craftsmanship. Modernica still uses the same materials and methods to hand craft each piece in their Michigan facility. The classic Saucer Pendant is available in 4 sizes, with 6 feet of cord (extra large comes with 9 feet) and a 5.25 inch brushed nickel ceiling plate.

Gino Sarfatti was an industrialist and designer, and the combination shows in his Model 2097 30 (1958). In his 30-year career, Sarfatti produced more than 400 lamps and was known for tireless research into new, production methods and sources of light. Model 2097 uses 30 bulbs that are arranged around a steel tube, and held in place by chromium-plated horizontal arms. In contrast to the strong horizontal and vertical lines, the electrical wires gently curve from each lamp to the stem, and give this modern icon a hint of traditional chandelier shape. • Original BTC Titan 3 Pendant - Black

We love the classic industrial look of the Titan Pendant. Designer Peter Bowles used an actual mold from the 1940's that produced these lamps for offices and factories at the time, but then he updated it for a more modern setting. We think it's an ideal choice for a kitchen, dining room, or workspace, since it is mostly downward lighting. But, if brightness isn't your thing. The lamp is UL listed and suitable for commercial spaces. This lamp is the larger version of the Titan 1. Manufactured in a factory in the UK dedicated to green manufacturing practices. 150W (max) incandescent or compact fluorescent bulb. 5' black braided cable and aluminum ceiling rosette. White interior. Please Note: Frosted Glass Diffuser Not Included.
