Yes, I love how they took what was essentially a prequel and turned it on its head. That is why so many movies like this don't work. They have to stick to canon and the viewer knows where things are eventually going to end up. But JJ Abrams can do anything with the franchise now! That is exciting. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for another one.

I love that line: "Hi, Christopher. I'm Nero." Hilarious. I love this movie, but I can say that I am a Trekkie. My mother grew us up watching it... Then I married a man who also grew up watching it. I have seen every series of the show, and all the movies. I was a bit concerned about the story of this one, but went to the theater to watch it with my mom.... AMAZING. It changed the timeline in such a believable way, and it is so exciting all the possibilities that can come from it! Super excited for the next Star Trek movie to come out in this line.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the original TV series but I love this reboot of the franchise.
Star Trek has always been a part of my life mainly because it's been my father's favorite show since he was a kid. He's not a Trekkie or anything but I remember him watching Next Generation and Voyager when I was younger. He still catches it whenever he can on SYFY. He even has a folder he kept full of drawings and magazine clippings from when he was a kid as well as a model of the Enterprise. I always used to think of it as the geeky show my dad watched when I was little. But now that I am older and am a bit geeky myself I have grown to understand why he loves it so much.
This new Star Trek takes the elements everyone loves from the original series and brings everything else up to another level. It still has the highbrow philosophical elements of the original Star Trek but with just a dash of the Star Wars-esque action added in. It is a very visually stunning film as well. I admit, I love those lens flares!
