  • Menu A/S Afteroom Chair
    shophorne.com
The Afteroom Chair is the first chair ever to be offered by Menu A/S. The three-legged design is a tribute to Bauhaus and simple functionalism. By deconstructing an item piece by piece, the Afteroom designers are able to achieve an original design that has clean lines without the compromising comfort. The solid steel frame is given an organic feel through the use of wood for the round seat and the flexible back support. This combination of steel and wood provides contrast and aesthetic appeal. The Afteroom Chair is available in black, white or light gray. It is also available as a barstool.
  • Josef Hoffmann Hoffmann Armchair
    dwr.com
Josef Hoffmann is well known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs – several intended for cafés – that he designed early in the 20th century. The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement can be seen in his work, but Hoffmann also embraced the industrial age. Rather than rejecting traditional decoration, he succeeded in making it serve structural principles, which he believed should determine the forms of buildings, interiors and objects. Whether admiring one of his chairs or the Sanatorium Purkersdorf he designed in 1903, you can see Hoffmann’s emphasis on straight, unadorned lines, characteristics that are in keeping with the style of the Viennese Secession. The Hoffmann Armchair (1925), designed in collaboration with Josef Frank, is made at the bentwood factory founded by Michael Thonet in 1861. Made in the Czech Republic.
  • Mater Shell Lounge Chair - Brown Saddle Leather, Soaped Oak
    shophorne.com
The Shell Chair is developed out of Michael Dreebens ongoing interest in traditional craft practices in North India - in this case saddle making. Exquisitely made saddles have been produced in India for centuries, and although some horse culture persists, it's waning as India becomes more technologically developed. The Shell Chairs attempt to incentivize this skilled trade by providing these artisans with a new market for their craft, and hopefully encouraging them to pass it on to younger generations. The shape of the chair is an homage to Scandinavian design of the mid-twentieth century and embraces some of its core values: it's clean of line and is intended to emphasize the leather forming and stitching, it's deeply comfortable, and it's durable – like the saddles it's derived from, it's crafted from thick, top-grain leather, and with reasonable care, will last for decades. Frame: Soaped Oak. Leather: Premium brown saddle leather

  • Niels Otto Møller Møller Model 71 Side Chair with Natural Woven Seat
    dwr.com
In 1944, Niels Otto Møller began his cabinetry company, where old craft traditions, like the hand-woven seat on the Model 71 Side Chair (1951), are still used today. Danish cord seats are known for their durability – easily withstanding decades of frequent use – and the strength of this material made it a smart substitute for tires when rubber was in short supply during WWII. What’s amazing about that history is that Danish cord is made of tightly twisted paper. Being a natural material, Danish cord is very pleasant to sit on and the way that it’s woven provides lasting comfort. Thirty years after he founded his company, Niels Otto Møller began exporting his chairs to Japan, which remains one of its biggest markets due to the simplicity and quality of the design and craftsmanship. Møllers is still a small family-owned business and is now managaged by Niels’ son, Jørgen Henrik Møller. These chairs are authentic, fully licensed products of J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. Made in Denmark. The seat is woven by hand from one continuous 425-foot-long piece of cord. To make the frames, the company selects the raw wood themselves from environmentally friendly areas. Machines are never used for the final polish, as these devices treat all wood the same and can’t replicate the finish that comes from polishing by hand.

  • George Nakashima Nakashima Straight-Backed Chair
    dwr.com
Presenting a very special re-introduction: the Nakashima Straight-Backed Chair (1946), designed by George Nakashima for Knoll. Nakashima was an MIT-trained architect who was known to describe himself as “Japanese Shaker.” This was meant to express his belief that his designs should be treated as everyday functional objects, not precious possessions. Such thinking was consistent with the Mingei Movement that influenced Nakashima and his work. The Movement sought to rescue common crafts that had been discarded as a result of industrial revolution, like traditional Japanese joinery and the use of natural. What’s remarkable about his work for Knoll is that Nakashima was able to maintain the sculptural lines and fine craftsmanship of his Straight-Backed Chair even at the mass production level. This reconciliation of art and industry, and the contradictions that accompanied it, continued to fascinate Nakashima throughout his career. His work has been presented at many exhibitions worldwide, including the retrospective “Full Circle” at the American Craft Museum in New York. This chair is manufactured by Knoll. Made in U.S.A.

The world’s first tray-table-stool.: A few simple adjustments and you can transform Flip Around from the key-keeping tray in the hallway, to the table holding your afternoon coffee and into a surprisingly comfortable stool. A new multifunctional piece of furniture that can assist you all over the house, kinda like the butler you never had. Flip Around is designed by Danish design duo NORM: aka Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn. It’s made of high quality ash wood and plastic. A mix of the new and the classic - and the mix of different inspirations and aesthetics is a big part of the design. Jonas: “Flip Around is multi functional and the inspiration is also pretty multi and from all over the world”. Kasper: “The design itself is very clean and minimalistic. That’s the whole idea – that you can put it anywhere in the house and it will look like it fits – and it will have a purpose in the room”. Jonas: “But the main inspiration to the design comes from something more rough, namely French industrial chairs and also the classic traditions of Danish cabinet making. And actually the whole assembly system is inspired from Chinese and Korean architecture, especially known for using wood wedges and wood pins to assemble their parts instead of using nails and screws”. Kasper: “So it’s really a multi design – it’s multi functional, multi national and multi inspirational”. Designer: Norm Architects. Materials: Wood(ash), Plastic, Steel. Dimensions: 14" x 18".

  • Arne Jacobsen Drop Chair

Arne Jacobsen designed the Drop Chair (1958) for his masterpiece, the legendary SAS Royal Hotel (now the Radisson Blu) in Copenhagen. It was originally manufactured along with Jacobsen’s Swan™ and Egg™ Collections but in very limited quantities. In hibernation for more than 50 years, Drop has finally returned. This compact chair with rare heritage is as fresh and vibrant today as it was back then. Constructed of strong ABS plastic with nylon reinforcement, the seat embraces the occupant while still allowing freedom of movement, resulting in a surprising level of comfort. Minimal tubular steel legs provide stability without stealing too much attention from the sculptural seat. This is the authentic Drop Chair manufactured by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Denmark.

The leather cushions are for indoor use only. The series has an armchair, lounge chair, sofa, and cocktail tables in 2 sizes as well as 3 sizes of a dining table.
