-Mad World, Gary Jules

*credit to @mlle-marguerite for the pajama quote! wow, I love it so much. I don't know wher you got it from but I got it from you, so credit!

{okay, so I obviously haven't written a Mel story in forever. school and dance have kept me super busy, and I'm sure that a lot of you are super busy with various activities too. I try to aim for at least one set a wekk but that doesn't always happen. I'm still in the roleplay of course because I love nwh so much, and so I'll get sets up whenever I can}

{also, since I wrote my last story, Mel and Ryan would obviously be long back from their road trip but I wanted to write a road trip story, so yeah. also, since I feel like roleplay time passes faster than real life time, Mel is a few months along now.}

I sat in the backseat of our car, giggling wth Molly as Ryan drove. So far, I was loving this road trip. We had stopped in Chapel Hill to visit Molly at college, and that was so much fun. She showed us around her campus, and then we went to the football game, which was a riot. I've never seen such diehard fans. Molly didn't have classes this week so she and her boyfriend, Nick had decided to tag along with us to Dayton. I was fine with it because as far as I was concerned, when it came to road trips, the more the merrier.

"Oh my gosh, I had totally forgotten about that!" I exclaimed as Molly recounted a story from when we were in high school. "Wow, we were so stupid!" I could hardly breathe as the two of us broke into fits of hysterical laughter.

"Wow, you two really are acting like teenage girls," commented Nick from the passenger seat.

"Yeah, thank goodness you came along, dude," Ryan said. "I don't think I could have handled the two of them on my own."

"Aw, we're harmless," pouted Molly. "You know you love us."

It was so good to see Molly again. I missed her so much. I of course had already told her I was pregnant over the phone but her reaction when she saw me was still priceless. She was beyond excited, rubbing my barely there belly and trying to come up with names already. It was exactly what I needed after the gloominess of Tree Hill, and were were about to get more of it.

When we had finally calmed down enough to stop laughing, I took a deep breath.

"Wow, Dayton." I said. "I can't believe we're actually going back."

"Did you guys not like it there or something?" Nick asked. I liked Nick so far. I was happy for Molly because she obvously adored him, and she needed a good relationship like that. I don't ever think she totally got over her first love, so having a strong relationship like this would be good for her. Like me, her past few had not gone well.

Molly leaned back. "Oh, it's awful," she declared. "It's your average Midwestern town, and it's SO boring. All of the people are so stupid. Mel and I swore we'd get the he.ll out of there, and look, we both did."

"Yeah, once our dad got married and the twin terrors came along, things got bad," I added. "We needed to leave."

"So, why do you guys even want to go back there?" Ryan asked us. "It doesn't seem like you have any fond memories."

"I just needed a place to go, and I thought, why not?" I said. "I mean, we did have some good times, and we have a handful of friends who we can go visit."

"We can show you guys the house we grew up in," Molly chimed in. "Hooray for nostalgia!"

"So, speaking of twin terrors," I cleared my throat, "that raises the crucial question: to visit or not to visit."

Molly's eyes widened. "Oh my gosh, I didn't even think of that." She closed her eyes. "I just don't know if I can deal with that b*tch," she said, massaging her temples.

"And I don't know if I can handle two obnoxious little boys running around. I don't want to ruin my excitement about this," I said, cradling my belly.

"I think you guys should say hi to your family," Ryan said. I saw the extra meaning in his eyes. Since Ryan's mom died when he was a teenager and his dad walked our on the family when he was a little kid, I knew that family was a precious thing for him.

"Yeah, you're right," I relented, returning his meaningful look. I would do this for him because I knew it would mean a lot to him.

"Look, we're almost there!" exclaimed Molly, pointing to a sign on the highway that read "WELCOME TO OHIO."

"Here we go!" I shouted. I reached up front to grab the iPod, turning it up. "Let's do this!"
