According to Harper's Bazaar, one of the hot fashion trends for Spring 2012 is island inspired apparel and accessories.

Of course, their "shop this trend" selection includes a lot of high priced items, whereas this set shows you how to do tropical (and cruelty-free) fashions on a budget.

Although I've only been once, Hawaii is one of my favorite places. Also, island, tropical and historic "tiki" culture--encompassing fashion, art and home decor--is a personal favorite style of mine.

For this set, I went with two colors that typify the tropics to me--green inspired by lush vegetation and blue for the sea and the sky. For the most part, accessories have a natural, organic feel to them. Both the green and the blue rings included remind me of sea glass washed up on the beach.

The most expensive item in the set is a canvas bag featuring a tropical print, created by fashion designer Stella McCartney. Like everything else in the set, it is vegetarian/vegan. I'm sure a little time spent with everyone's online friend, Google, would yield a bag with a similar look at a significant cost savings.

Enjoy! And ALOHA!
