  • Taschen 75 Years of Marvel Comics
    nestdallas.com
From the very first issue of pulp impresario Martin Goodman’s Marvel Comics in 1939, the comic book creators of Marvel’s Golden Age flipped the traditional fantasy script by placing the inhuman and the invincible into the real world. With the likes of the fiery android Human Torch, vengeful sea prince Sub-Mariner, and pip-squeak-turned-paragon Captain America, Marvel created a mythological universe grounded in a world that readers recognize as close to their own, brimming with humor and heartache. In the early 1960s, this audacious approach launched the creation of heroes who have since become household names—Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, theFantastic Four, Iron Man, the Avengers, Thor, the X-Men—the list goes on. Fans still celebrate it as the Marvel Age of comics, an era populated by a pantheon of bickering heroes, misunderstood monsters, and noble villains. In celebration of Marvel’s 75th anniversary, TASCHEN presents a magnum opus of the most influential comic book publisher today, with an inside look not only at its celebrated characters, but also at the "bullpen" of architects whose names are almost as familiar as the protagonists they brought to life—Stan “the Man” Lee, Jack “King” Kirby, along with a roster of greats likeSteve Ditko, John Romita, John Buscema, Marie Severin, and countless others. With essays by comics historian and former Marvel editor-in-chief Roy Thomas, this book delves into the heart of thousands of costumed characters who continue to fight the good fight in comics, movies, and toy aisles of the world. The XL-format book includes: More than 700 pages of near 2,000 images including vintage comic books, one-of-a-kind original art, behind-the-scenes photographs and film stills, as well as rare toys and collectibles. A four-foot accordion-fold timeline. Biographies of more than 300 artists, writers, editors, and famous fans who helped shape Marvel's history.

  • The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald
    beginningboutique.com.au
The parties at Gatsby's Long Island mansion were legendarily glamorous affairs. Young, handsome and fabulously rich, Jay Gatsby appears to have it all, yet he yearns for the one thing that will always be out of his reach, the absence of which renders his life of glittering parties and bright young things ultimately hollow. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby brilliantly captures the disillusion of a society obsessed with wealth and status. Now a major motion picture, the Great Gatsby is considered a modern classic that will take you back in time to the glamourous and not so glamourous side of the wealthy life in the 1920s. AUTHOR: F. Scott Fitzgerald PUBLISHER: Penguin Group 2013 FORMAT: Softcover 240 Pages ISBN: 978-0-7343-0686-9

  • How To Make Female Friends at Alt Summit
    pinterest.com
Today on the blog, I am doing my second recap of Alt Summit. I wanted to do a blog post for a long time about how to make female friends and my experience at Alt was a big catalyst for me. I complied a list of tips with Lisa of (her tips go up tomorrow) and I hope that you enjoy reading them. (Note: this blog post is about making female friends because whenever large groups of women gather, no matter how old we are, some middle school bullshit/clique bullshit always arises and I'm sick of it, so here we go. We can do better.) Making Female Friends at Alt Summit * Smile. * Don't be a jerk. * Be curious. Ask thoughtful questions to the person you just met beyond the traditional ones - where do you live, what do you do, etc... * Reciprocity. No one likes a one sided conversation. Ask a question, listen to their answer, ask a follow up question based on what they said. Still nothing? Answer the same question you just asked them to keep the convo rolling. * Hone your pitch. Be on point when talking about yourself - practice saying who you and what you do and make sure you can keep it to 10-30 seconds. * Share the good stuff. Focus on the positive stuff in your life when first meeting someone. * Laughter. Know at least one or two knock knock jokes and make sure they're not sexist, racist, homophobic or otherwise problematic. Jokes about veggies are always fun! * Compliments work every time. * The brush/bump. Sometimes at a party when I can't make eye contact with them, I will either brush by them and/or gently bump into them to apologize and that is a great way to start a conversation if all else fails. * Get a wingwoman. Nervous about going to a party/event by yourself? Get a wingwoman to hang out with! Lisa of Zelma Rose is the best wingwoman a girl could ask for. We are dynamic team at events because we follow the rules above and we love meeting new people! Now on to the photos of the most badass ladies I met. (Yes, the conference was FULL of hundreds amazing women and maybe next time I attend I will get to feature more of them. Mad love to every woman that came to Alt to better herself, her blog or her business - it takes a lot to participate in a conference like this, so bravo!) To find out more about who these ladies are, please follow their links right here: * Izzy Hudgins Photography * Beatrice Clay {for a beautiful life} * Connie - Art In The Find * Julia - Tag & Tibby * Courtney Khail Stationery * Tammy Petro * Cyndie Spiegel * Reachel - Cardigan Empire Thanks to all of these ladies for humoring me as I photographed your outfits as thought you were a fashion blogger. I adore all of you and can't wait to see what we all accomplish this next year as we all root one another on! Tomorrow I'll be featuring 8 more lovely ladies, so please come back to the blog! xo Sarah
