Hermès have their own silk farm facility in Brazil where silkworms produce the cocoons that are made into the raw silk filament. 
Let’s have some fun with math: one silkworm moth produces 300 cocoons, which creates 450,000 metres of silk thread, which goes on to make one silk scarf. So 300 cocoons = 1 silk scarf. Pretty impressive, huh?
