1906 La Vie Parisienne "Riviera" Print
Original double page spread taken from the February 1906 issue of French periodical La Vie Parisienne. This art deco cartoon titled "Riviera ", was illustrated by "MICH (Michel Liebeaux, 1881-1923). This is an actual spread taken from the antique magazine, so there is a faint crease down the center from where the magazine was bound during production, and minor ware around the edges. Other than that the print is in excellent condition. Mich’s main clients were the bicycle and auto industries at the beginning of the Twentieth Century (see Nos. 106-108), and in the 1912 Salon des Humoristes, he exhibited fifty sporting designs. His drawings also filled the pages of L’Auto, L’Echo de Paris and La Vie Parisienne. His two lithographic fortes are combined in this insert from the Revue des Arts Graphique that clearly, crisply and fashionably demonstrates just how much the automotive culture had become a part of the everyday “Parisian Life.” Of the many–and obviously well-known–personages admiring this revved-up scene are the sportsman Tristan Bernard and aviation pioneer Santos Dumon La Vie Parisienne (Parisian life) was a French weekly magazine founded in Paris in 1863 and was published without interruption until 1970. It was popular at the start of the 20th century. Originally it covered novels, sports, theater, music and the arts. In 1905 the magazine changed hands and the new editor Charles Saglio changed its format to suit the modern reader. It soon evolved into a mildly risqué erotic publication.

1900's Antique Apple Lithographs - Set of 3
These three chromolithographs (stone lithographs printed in colors) were printed in the early 1900s (each is dated on the upper left). They depict varieties of apples and were beautifully printed by Julius Bien Co. One is signed in the plate by the artist. Each color was carefully printed laying in one color at a time. Care had to be taken that the stones and the paper were lined up exactly to prevent unwanted lines and shadows. The printer also had to know how the colors would combine to achieve the desired result. Beautiful in its composition and style, prints from this work are highly decorative and as such are becoming quite rare. Over 100 years old, they are in very good condition. Blank on verso.
