  • &tradition Fly Chair SC1 by Space Copenhagen
    SOLD OUT: More info
The new FLY Series by SPACE Copenhagen is a lounge collection made up of two sofas and an armchair. Pushing the idea of lounging to its fullest, FLY is a series that allows the user to sit, lie, rest, and relax. Unlike many of the sofas and easy chairs in Scandinavian design history, FLY does not impose any particular posture onto the sitter. The seat itself is optimised for comfort, with loose cushions for the back that can be arranged according to the user’s own needs. But FLY adheres to tradition in other respects; the frame of the sofa and armchair, with a slatted back rest, is made from oak, treated with white pigmented oil or smoked oil. It is the type of material and treatment that ages with true grace, only becoming more beautiful with time. Frame Solid oak, oak veneer, and plywood. Finish - Smoked oiled oak or White oiled oak frame. Upholstery Cold cured foam and natural down fillings. Upholstery: Chivasso Hot Madison (CH1249/094) (Light colour) - Cotton/Linen blend. Chivasso Hot Madison (CH1249/093) (Dark colour) - Cotton/Linen blend. Harald 2 182 - blue velvet. Dimensions: Armchair: H 700mm x D 800mm, L 870mm. Seating height on all models is 400mm.

  • Frank Gehry Gehry Cross Check Armchair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Frank Gehry once wrote that designing a new chair was like being asked "to find the meaning of life while standing on one foot. It's like a Talmudic question." In 1989, when Knoll approached him with that same challenge, the only way Gehry would consider it was if Knoll would set him up in a workshop similar to that of Charles and Ray Eames, which he fondly recalls visiting in his youth. Two years after receiving the Pritzker Prize -- "the Nobel of architecture" – the designer released the Gehry Collection (1990) for Knoll. Paying homage to his Canadian roots, he named the pieces after ice hockey terms; the wafer-thin strips of laminated maple are bent, woven and curled into featherweight yet sturdy forms, evoking the simple strength of hockey sticks themselves. Made in U.S.A. Stamped with the KnollStudio logo, Frank Gehry’s signature and the date of production. Thermoset adhesive provides structural rigidity without the need for metal connectors, while allowing for ergonomic movement and spring-like comfort. All wood grains run in the same direction for resilience. Accolades include ASID Award, ROSCO Award, ID Magazine Gold Award, ICFE Award for Excellence, IBD Silver, Prince Takamatsu World Culture Award and Time Magazine Best Design of the Year (all 1992).

  • Adelta - Pastil Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
One year after he had designed the Pastil Chair in 1968 Eero Aarnio received the American Industrial Award for this chair. The New York Times wrote about the Ball Chair and Pastil Chair at this time: "The most comfortable forms to hold up the human body", and the Conran's Design Dictionary says "they look like essays in period style, perhaps from Barbarella". That’s what Aarnio said about the Pastil Chair in detail: "The Pastil shape can be looked at from many angles. The initial idea could be the same as in a Screw Table i.e. The product shape comes from a small sweetie, pastil, but in this case the idea was, that a lot of empty, cushioned space is sent to the other side of the world inside the Ball Chair. A new round chair would fit in this space, and so the diameter of the Pastil is the same as the opening of the Ball Chair. I made the first prototype out of polystyrene which helped me to verify the measurements, ergonomics and rocking ability. Because fibreglass is always laminated by hand on a smooth mould the visible surface is perfectly shiny but the other surface slightly rough. I have always wanted to cover or to hide this side of my fibreglass products. In the Pastil it is ideally on the inside and thus totally invisible."

  • Knoll International Knoll - Barcelona Lounger
    SOLD OUT: More info
The seating furniture that has been designed in the end of the 20es by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the German pavilion of the world exposition in Barcelona, counts to the absolute classic today, deservedly. On one hand because the ensemble of the clear pavilion made the cold lifestyle famous later – becoming the “International Style”. On the other hand, because there are historic references. That is how Greek folding chairs (scissor- or driving-chairs as throne for gods and monarchs) served as inspiration. More or less this is a new-time throne (without folding function). In reality, the furniture pieces for the Barcelona pavilion fulfilled highly representative purposes in their initial context: They should serve as royal chairs during the opening ceremony of the world exposition in Barcelona. This conception stands in contrast to the social, even socialistic aims, which was kept by many protagonists of the “New Constructing” at that time. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe used band steel and leather upholstery on the world exposition in celebrity white. The chair Barcelona was a luxury furniture and moreover hardly suitable for the series. The frame had to be welded sophistically by hand, which meant that the chair could be firstly produced in a changed version from 1948 on. However, it is a really innovative design which enlarged the repertoire of modern times. The separate seat and back cushions “fall” by themselves into the desired position. Thereby the lounger wins its apparent attractiveness, not at last because of the contrast of the swung frame to the more static acting leather modules. More details: Characteristics: A signed KnollStudio-Furniture, which is manufactured with Mies van der Rohe initial specifications. In 1953 the designer offered exclusive market and production rights to Knoll. Also a children’s edition of the Barcelona Stool is available. The logo KnollSTudio and the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe are imprinted in every furniture piece. Construction: The chromed frame is high gloss polished by hand. Each cushion consists of 40 single leather pieces that are hand-cut, sewed and equipped with seams and buttons out of one skin. The viewable side of the straps have been coloured suiting the upholstery. Surface: Available in different spinneybeck-leathers. The frame is chromed and polished. Awards: Award of the Museum of Modern Art, 1977.

  • Vitra - Slow Chair & Ottoman
    SOLD OUT: More info
The Bouroullec brothers re-interpreted the armchair with their Slow Chair: a familiar, bulky form is combined with weightless, transparent materials when it comes to produce the Vitra armchair. This is how an exciting contrast emerges between form and material, searching for equals regarding comfort and style. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec created this expansive armchair by using an extremely strong, precisely shaped knit which is stretched over the metal frame like a fitted stocking. This tensioning of the material offers a pleasantly soft and ergonomic comfort to the Slow Chair, which is even increased by thin seat and back cushions. The slightly transparent fabric thereby substitutes the thick cushions of traditional armchairs and brings weightlessness to the otherwise bulky Slow Chair. Slow Chair therewith acts really withdrawing in the living room or the winter garden, without renouncing any comfort: an ergonomic sitting comfort that adapts to the user’s body is offered by the strong tension at different points of the chair. Vitra manufactures the Slow Chair & Ottoman out of a steel-tube-frame with aluminium feet. Three cushions in adapted colours are included in the delivery package. More details: Design: Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, 2007. Material: Metal frame, polished or powder-coated aluminium legs, cover: knitted fabric, seat and backrest cushion: polyurethane foam and polyester wool. Measurements: 890 x 950 x 928 mm. Availability (tricot): brown/crème, red/crème, brown, black. Availability (legs): aubergine. Availability(glider): glider, felt glider. The Ottoman, and also the long and short back cushions are available. Please tell us which colour of the tricot material you would like to have!
