Irregular and apparently random intersections of spatial planes create a volume around the light source and produce the dynamic character of the exuberant suspension lamp Big Bang. By evoking the dynamism of an explosion, the methacrylic planes – available in the white or white/red versions – seem to escape the central luminous core and explode in all directions. A highly plastic luminous body, characterized by the intrigues of light and shade, of great visual impact and yet aerial, ideal for single handedly personalizing interiors of various styles. • George Nelson Bubble Pendant - Extra Large Bell
    shophorne.com
First designed in 1947, the George Nelson Bubble Lamp Collection has stood the test of time. The simple structural shapes with the innovative use of taut plastic over fine steel wire were born from George Nelson's frustration to buy a Swedish-made silk lamp which produced a soft light. This unique use of shape and material produces a diffused light that is free of glare while offering an abundance of illumination. These pieces are part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and remain icons in modern lighting. Modernica discovered these designs and reintroduced the series in 1989 with a dedication to reproducing these stunning, classic lights with authenticity and craftsmanship. Modernica still uses the same materials and methods to hand craft each piece in their Michigan facility. The classic Saucer Pendant is available in 4 sizes, with 6 feet of cord (extra large comes with 9 feet) and a 5.25 inch brushed nickel ceiling plate.

Modernica has reintroduced the rare Original George Nelson Bubble Lamp Net Light®. This pendent light is constructed of fine, web-coated netting, stretched over metal rings, to create a distinct geometric shape. The unique size and shape of the pendant lamp will make a lovely addition for modern interiors. The George Nelson Net Light® series was released in 1959 and less than 1000 were ever produced. Today, only a scarce few of the original Net Lights survive. Modernica is bringing back the series, resurrecting an exceptional component of George Nelson design history while being faithful to specifications and materials used in the original design. Since 1989, Modernica has proven its steadfast commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. Being at the forefront of rediscovering and relaunching out-of-production pieces, Modernica still uses the same methods and materials to handcraft each lamp that were used in 1952. The George Nelson Bubble Lamp® collection is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Modernica is the official site for the George Nelson Bubble Lamp® Collection. Handcrafted in Michigan, U.S.A. Features. George Nelson Bubble Lamp® Collection. Designed by George Nelson in 1947. Type: Pendant light. Color: White. The shipping box dimensions are: 20” x 20” x 41" 12lbs. Care and Cleaning. In most settings the lamps can be cleaned with a feather duster or a soft cloth. If they become grimy, the process will be bit more complicated. We suggest cleaning them with a mild soap solution (a little ivory dish liquid in two quarts of lukewarm water, for example) and a soft cloth. To remove the soap, wipe with a clean, damp cloth and dry with a soft rag. Stronger solutions, like a glass cleaner containing ammonia, could discolor or damage the plastic coating.

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), one of the founders of Artek, was born in Kuortane, Finland. He is recognized today as one of the great masters of modern architecture. He began designing furnishings as a natural and important extension of his architectural thinking. His contribution to furniture design was among his foremost achievements in its own right, and it sowed the seed from which many of his architectural ideas sprang forth. Alvar Aalto's furniture and lighting pieces form the basis of the Artek range. A330S Pendant Lamp is one of Aalto's designs. Aino and Alvar Aalto were commissioned in 1936 to design the interior of the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki. Porcelain is an ancient and precious material. Porcelain is earth. Porcelain manufacture is a complex production process and when it's not made on industrial scale it requires very careful handling. For this reason many artisans opt for ceramic, due to its much simpler manufacturing procedure. Michele De Lucchi chose to work with this material in order to pair a modern lamp design with a traditional technique that needed revival and revolutionizing. The choice of the porcelain diffuser has additionally been made due to the poetic ambiguity of the material, which assumes transparency when the light is turned on, diffusing and regulating the light beams in a soft and sweet way unknown to any other material. Essentially, there was an aesthetic and functional necessity for a bell-shaped diffuser formed in a single piece and having an upper cone to integrate and accommodate the lamp-holder. A little suspending ring made of chromed metal puts an end to the strive for simplicity otherwise pursued in the design. The platinum edge on the lowest side of the lamp emphasizes with discretion the entire construction's basic geometry. Features. Designed by Michele De Lucchi. Made in Italy. Type: Pendant light. Color: white. UL Listed fixtures available upon request.
