The Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto shall be deemed to be the pioneer of the laminated wood processing. Influenced by the German Bauhaus he experimented with this material since 1927. The designer who called his style as always 'Bio-functionalism” alluding to his fondness to organic and smooth forms, founded the Artek Company in Helsinki in the year 1935 with his wife Aino. Artek still produces and provides Aalto’s timeless designs today. Not at least his invention of a new bending method enabled his success, with his method Alvar Aalto manufactured the first self-supporting wooden chair frames, he patented it in the same year. The frame of the patented rolling side table 901 appears reversed and in a slightly different proportion than the legendary Paimio Chair 41. Aalto designed the streamlined Tea Trolley 901 in 1936, and it debuted at the Milan Triennale as part of the modern Finnish interior. The trolley with the practical linoleum boards – a Scandinavian speciality – also takes place in the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä, intended for regular expositions. The big brother from the trolley 901 (the trolley 900) has a shorter board and an open basket instead of the deposit board under the fret. The frame of the trolley 901 consists of bright lacquered birch wood. The rolls consist of white lacquered MDF and have black rubber tyres. The boards are available in black linoleum of white laminate.
