Each handmade Vitra miniature is a classic in the history of furniture design reduced in size at a scale of 1:6. True to the original pieces in structure and, the miniatures are precision-crafted, making them a thoughtful gift for a furniture lover or design professional. Charles and Ray Eames received a commission to design the interiors of three lobbies in the new Time & Life Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City. In addition to outfitting these spaces, this major project encompassed the development of the comfortably upholstered Lobby Chairs and a group of stools made out of solid walnut. Inspired by an African stool that stood in the living room of the Eames House, the lathe-turned Eames Stools (1960), which were also conceived by Ray to be used as small occasional tables, have distinctive individual profiles. Each Vitra miniature comes handsomely packaged in a wood box with an informational booklet.
  • Mater Shell Bar Stool - Black Leather, Sirka Grey Oak Base
    shophorne.com
The Shell Chair developed out of Michael Dreeben’s ongoing interest in traditional craft practices in north India - in this case saddle making. Exquisitely made saddles have been produced in India for centuries, and although some horse culture persists, it’s waning as India becomes more technologically developed. The Shell Chairs incentivize these skilled tradesmen and women by providing the artisans with a new market for their craft, and hopefully encouraging them to pass it on to younger generations. The shape of the chair is indebted to Scandinavian design of the mid-twentieth century and embraces some of its core values: it’s clean of line and emphasizes the leather forming and stitching, it’s deeply comfortable, and it’s durable like the saddles it’s derived from. Crafted from thick top-grain leather, with reasonable care, these chairs will last for decades. Frames: Sirka Grey Oak Swivel Base. Leathers: Black Leather.

  • Simon Hasan Bermondsey Stool
    shophorne.com
Since 2008, Simon Hasan has been recognised for challenging conventional thinking toward material and process. The recipient of two Wallpaper* Design Awards, Simon is in the V&A Museum publication, 21 Designers for 21st Century Britain. His work is in the permanent collection of the Gewerbe Museum (Switzerland), the UK Crafts Council and the Fondazione Fendi (Italy). Inspired by the collision of industrial processes and ancient crafts during the Industrial Revolution, Simon Hasan embraces tradition and technology to create innovative objects with a rich historical context and timeless appeal. The striking Bermondsey stool features a deeply drawn leather seat that has been literally cooked into shape using a medieval armour-making process. The heavy saddle leather is contrasted with highly polished legs to give a generous and comfortable stool for indoor use.
  • Skagerak Cobbler Stool - Oak
    shophorne.com
The Cobbler Stool is the big brother of the traditional milking stool. Both have proved their worth as indispensable work tools through the ages. The stool is very simply styled and designed to fit in with most dining tables so that it can be used as an extra chair. Or it can simply just sit against the wall as a decorative item when not in use _ on its own or as part of a set. The Cobbler Stool is a reinterpretation of a time-honored classic that adds a very special sense of cosiness and nostalgia to a modern home interior.

  • Warren Platner Platner Stool, Leather
    dwr.com
If you combined the work of I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen, the result might very well look like the Platner Collection (1962). Warren Platner worked with both of the industrial and organic design giants before turning his attention to steel wire furniture, for which he devised the structure and production method. Requiring as many as 1,000 welds and crafted out of wire and space, the Stool, available in a range of upholstery options, demonstrates Platner's belief that there is room in modernism "for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV." Constructed of metal components that are finished in bright nickel with a clear lacquer protective coating, the stool features a clear plastic extrusion ring surrounding the base to protect floors. The Platner Collection is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified for low-emitting products. Manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer.

  • Philippe Starck Emeco Stool Seat Pad - Vinyl
    dwr.com
After updating the iconic 1006 seat by Emeco for the Hudson Hotel in New York City, Philippe Starck took on the Emeco Counter and Barstools, stripping the classics of their back and arms and giving them an irresistably slender profile. Simple, elegant and commodious for bodies of all sizes, the stools contain up to 80% recycled aluminum and are handcrafted to be stronger than steel using the same proprietary 77-step process as the classic 1006 Navy Collection. First designed as prototypes for the Mies van der Rohe retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 2001, the Bar and Counter Stools are solutions that the museum thought Mies van der Rohe himself might choose today. Made available to the public in 2002 and equipped with optional vinyl seat pads, they have a cool neutrality right for any environment, artfully blending contemporary crispness with the contours of '50s modernism. The optional Seat Pad, in black, is made of vinyl and is easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

  • David Geckeler Nerd Counter Stool
    dwr.com
Based in Berlin, designer David Geckeler thrives on a multidisciplinary approach, often working on projects in furniture, tableware and lighting simultaneously. His Nerd Stool (2012) was honored with the 2011 Talent Award from Muuto, the Danish design company that handpicks the brightest design talent and invites them to express their stories through everyday objects. “Danish simplicity and iconic expression are combined in this stool,” says Geckeler. “The curved shape of the seat invites the user to sit on the stool from several angles, while the low backrest provides pleasant, comfortable support.” When asked to explain the stool’s name, he replied, “To me, Nerd describes its personality and design.” By that, we’re assuming he means the sleek construction with no visible screws is a cool feat of engineering that would rock a furniture nerd’s world. Made in Latvia. Please note seat width is roughly 2" less than overall width.
