  • The Bear rubber stamp brooch
    boticca.com
This piece was inspired from a whole collection of antique rubber stamps that I found in a flea market. I loved how the rubbers got stained during such a long time. I set the stamps in silver and chose an appropriate decorative frame to create a narrative scene. Here the metal frame is decorated with pastes and was found in a flea market. The brooch system is in silver. Size: W5 H5 L1 cm All jewellery arrive boxed and ready for gifting! I mainly like to work with recycled materials which inspire me. My process of creation comes from chaos and coincidences. The caracteristic of these found objects lead me into some kind of intuitive game, where I come to discover links and combinations. Through transformation I give them a new meaning, catching up with the magical world of the imperceptible, beauty and ugliness. In this world, all the preestablished rules of our super conditioned society disappear, and others show up, those of chaos and freedom.

This jewel was designed in India and was the first I created in this collection. It shows the portrait of Gandhi; symbol of peace and justice. It is made with an Indian folded bank note set in a vintage brass frame with paste found in a flea market. The brooch system is in silver. The eyes are enamelled copper and are used in India to ornate divinities created in wax. I always buy these eyes in the market of Varanasi, the holiest city of this huge country. Size: W2,5 H4 L1 cm My work is about money and its value in our occidental society. Im asking myself about the future of a world where the economy, the consumption society and the profit never stop to increase to the detriment of the essential nature of human being. A trip to India and Asia made me more sensitive to our society the self-satisfaction, comfort, and tasteless luxury which enters everywhere in our daily way of life. I use coins and notes to create jewels, purses, cuffs, which denounce the pretentious, arrogant and frivolous character of the fineries and other fashionable accessories worn by the mass of conventional people.

This piece is made with a vintage brass purse's clasp where I have attached various religious pendants collected in different parts of the world. It is not really functional as a purse. It questions materialism and spirituality. A brooch system attached behind the clasp allows you to wear it on the clothes. With this piece I wanted to show how human beings dominate and destroy nature for money. This piece is made with an Indonesian banknote collected in a flea market. In an embroidery shop in India I found plenty of these antique Air force army emblems. I decided to transform them into the shape of a skull with wings by adding eyes made of two garnets in the middle of the parachute. The emblem's setting and the brooch system are in silver. Size: W5,5 H2 x L1 cm During my stay in India in 2008, I worked with indian embroiders. In India, handmade embroidery is currently used to realise badges and emblems. First, I recycled old embroideries that I found in the workshop. Then I designed new patterns. My desire is to use this ancient handmade work, which has almost disappeared in the West and was replaced by factories, in order to give it a new value and update it.Most of the time, I chose images which denounce the madness of our modern society, but was also inspired by symbols of India.
