[a little update story! :) sorry for the lack of participation.]
I picked up my phone and dialed Nate's number. I had to tell him I couldn't make it to our 'date' because of my Mom.
Well, I could have made it if my Mom hadn't came up with a silly plan for the day.
flashback - 1 hours ago;
"Where's Dad?" I asked as I sat down on the counter table, pouring myself a glass of juice.
"Oh, he went out early today. There was an unexpected meeting so he won't be back till tomorrow night."
I nodded as I took a sip of the orange juice. But deep inside, I was smiling like an idiot because I could sneak to town and not risk getting caught.
She placed a plate of toast in front of me. "Are you in the mood?" she asked.
"In the mood for what?"
I had a bad feeling that something was gonna happen.
"Well, nothing much. Just maybe in the mood for some mother and daughter time?"
I almost choked. She couldn't have asked at a better moment.
"Why not?" she asked, faking a hurt tone.
"I," I paused to think of a reason. "I have one more sewing lesson with Mrs. Kennedy."
"Can't you postpone it?"
"No. I just missed it two days ago because you needed help with the laundry."
I have another problem. I have to think of other reasons next time because if she lets me go today, I can no longer use Mrs. Kennedy's sewing lesson as an excuse.
She sighed, putting a few rock sugar into her coffee. "Fine. I thought we could do some doll sewing since you used to love it a lot."
I blushed. Are you kidding me? I never touch them since I was 16.
"How about gardening?"
"Mom..." I spreaded butter on the toast.
"Please, just one more time? The garden really needs some touching up to do."
"What about tomorrow?"
She grumbled. "Serena Callaghan."
I chew on my toast and gulped it down.
"I have a 100 cupcakes order due by Friday and two mini cakes due on Saturday. I have to start work the latest tomorrow. Today's my only free time."
I leaned back in my chair. "What about Sunday?"
I'm thinking of all the possible ways.
"I need to rest," she said. "What is wrong with you, Serena?"
"Then why can't you help me out with the garden? Did Sasha let you watch some of her tv shows?" she asked then added. "Oh my gosh, she did I told her not to this is so not good... I'm not-"
She snapped her head back to face me.
"I'm helping you, okay?"
I nodded as I stood up. "I'll give Mrs. Kennedy a call."
"Good. And wait, did Sasha let you watch tv?"
She gasped. "What stuffs?"
I rolled my eyes. "Videos on how to sew," I lied and took my plate, heading to the basin.
There was a few dial on the other side before he picked up.
"Serena?" I blushed a little as he knew straight away it was me.
I jumped out from my bed and went to lock the door before jumping back onto the bed.
"Yeah, it's me."
"Do you know where to meet?"
"Uhm, about our....date." I bit my lips. "I can't make it."
There was a short silence. "Why?"
"Something came up."
"It's alright then. There's always next time."
I f.ngered a strand of my hair and twisted them. "I'm really sorry, Nate."
I felt bad. He said he prepared something and I probably wasted his time.
"Hey, it's okay. Just let me know when you're free."
"I'll check on it and let you know."
I didn't know what else to say.
He chuckled. "Bye, Serena."
I hung up and dropped my back on the bed, sighing really loud.
I just missed out on a one-on-one date with a guy and I don't know when I'll get that chance again.
Living on top of a hill sucks. Real bad.
