  • English Classics Furniture Mahogany Chippendale Coffee Table with Drawers
    english-classics.net
One of the most beautiful features of this mahogany Chippendale coffee table with drawers are the glorious selections of flamed mahogany that compose the top surface. The grain flows in wisps from the corners and grow lighter as they reach their adjacent destinations creating the illusion of fire. The top is bordered by a thick band of another choice wood called satinwood. This lies in stark contrast to the mesmerizing patina of the flame mahogany creating a wonderful combination. This table is lined with drawers on both of the longer sides for your storage needs (one side has working drawers the other side faux drawers). They reflect the same image as the top featuring the flame mahogany with the band of satinwood around the edges and are outlined with a beaded moulding. The three drawers on the front are easily opened and closed sliding on solid wood rails. The three on the back are faux (fake) and do not open but add an extra layer of aesthetic composition to this already marvelous piece. The elegant swan neck pulls that occupy the center of each drawer are made from solid brass. The extremely sturdy legs are fashioned in the traditional Chippendale style being straight-fluted and adorned with a bracket decoration on the inner corners. This piece would look grand sitting in front of a lovely sofa in your favorite sitting area. This table is new and in excellent condition. It was just recently made in England by a master craftsman. He uses Old World, hand techniques and applies a seven stage, hand rubbed finish to give this new piece of furniture as much of an antique and authentic look as possible. Thomas Chippendale was an English cabinet-maker that arose to fame during the 16th century. His shop was in London and it was here that he obtained a place in furniture making history. His work reflected a mastery in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. I wasn’t long before he was creating guidelines for cabinet-making in the city of London that were also followed outside the country. His influence has now spread throughout the world and hints of his style may be seen in pieces that are fashioned even today.

Both of the drawers are fitted with and adjustable hanging file system that accommodates either letter or legal size files. There is no need to worry about dropping in a frame, it comes ready to use! Additionally, both of the drawers lock and two keys are included. Adorning the front of the drawers are solid brass, swan neck style handles that look great. The drawers slide in and out on metal rails, so no matter how many heavy files you put in, the drawers will still work easily. The use of the burled walnut wood is a great choice. The wispy grain and golden honey color will compliment any decor. A straight grained walnut was been used as a cross band on the drawer fronts helping define the edges. The wood has been expertly finished using a time honored, seven-stage hand rubbed finish that ends in coats of fine wax. This finish is deep and rich, and provides the closest look you can get to an antique that has had a hundred years to develop a patina. Both sides are simply decorated with beading to provide some interest on the sides as well. The shaped bracket feet do a great job of supporting the two drawer lateral file cabinet and they add an air of elegance to the bottom part.
