What an epic day of Punk, Couture and Style Icons! I highly recommend you add to your bucket list for the summer a trip to the Punk: Chaos to Couture show at The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute.
Thank you to Moda Operandi and Polyvore for the VIP tour of the show. I thought I knew about punk, but I was delightfully surprised and fascinated by the impact that the punk aesthetic has had on high fashion. From the "do-it-yourself etho's of punk's originators to the perfection created by couture designers." It was a visual feast for the eyes. From the extremely heavy Burberry studded leather jacket to a broken plate and wire vest.
A great quote from Johnny Rotten "Tears, safety pins, rips all over the gaff, third rate tramp thing, that was poverty, really lack of money." What we perceive as the aesthetic style was purely necessity...and being fearless.
Add brilliant to fabulous and the day was complete with a tour of the Moda Operandi HQ, and sponsors of the show. We were treated to a peek of their Punk Collection and I can tell you first hand, having tried everything I could on, that the Nicholas Kirkwood plaid peep-toes in this set are a delicious masterpiece for your feet and the Moschino plaid jacket fit exquisitely. I did manage to add, or should I say balanced, a Mohawk to my punk look. No, sadly, none of these amazing pieces made it home with me, but I did leave them my address if they were ever interested in a new home in my closet.
Thank you to Taylor and the @modaoperandi team for an amazing day and for your graciousness, hospitality and the gifts!
