  • Knoll International Knoll - Laccio 2 Coffee Table
    connox.com
The design of the Laccio coffee table has already been coined by Marcel Breuer in 1925. The table with the characteristic U-shape frame is also known as Bauhaus table and presents a modern and simultaneously timeless design. Initially the Laccio couch table was used as stool, until it finally found utility as a table. The table frame consists of steel tube – a material with which Breuer experimented for years before he used it for the Laccio couch table among others. The designer Breuer has been fascinated about forming never ending shapes out of steel rod and then designed a series of different steel tube furniture pieces. Breuer wanted to create “apartments of today’s life” with his designs and especially focused on making his products demountable and hygienic. The Laccio coffee table fulfils these demands and is moreover a high quality design classic since many years. The table board of the Laccio coffee table is made out of plastic laminate and available in white, red or black. The round-tube-steel made frame is shaped seamless and high glossy chromed. The rectangular Laccio model is moreover combinable with a smaller, square edition of the Laccio coffee table. More details: Characteristics: As Bauhaus trainee, Marcel Breuer designed the low table as companion of the Wassily Chair in 1925, the first steel-tube-design based on steel-tube-frames of bicycles. The KnollStudio-logo and the signature of Marcel Breuer are printed in the table’s frame. Construction: Tabletop out of plastic laminate in black, white or red, seamless formed round –steel-tube, high gloss chromed. Surface: Frame with polished chrome-plating. Table top on three colours: white, black or red.

  • Artek Kiki Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Ilmari Tapiovaara, 1960. Lacquered steel frame, PU foam & dacron, upholstery. Made in Finland by Artek. Tapiovaara wanted to design inexpensive furniture for a broader audience. He made use of materials that were readily available in Finland in the 1940s, such as solid birch. Later in the 1950s, he began to develop multipurpose chairs made of steel tubing and plywood. Ilmari Tapiovaara designed Kiki in 1960. It was originally conceived as a chair whose stackability allowed it to be used to seat large groups, such as in auditoriums. In the Kiki series Tapiovaara employed a more clean cut design idiom instead of the more organic style he had favored previously. Instead of wood, he chose oval steel tubing as the structural and unifying element of the whole Kiki collection. Kiki was a success, establishing the current direction for furniture design at this time. Kiki's timeless and elegant design idiom has made it one of the most popular pieces of public furniture in Finland. Llmari Tapiovaara was one of the greatest interior architects and designers of his era. With the mind of an explorer and a soul of a craftsman, Tapiovaara was always seeking for new solutions to improve everyday objects. During his long career Tapiovaara created dozens of iconic objects loved by the public. He was revered as a master of characteristic and human objects and surroundings who captured the essence of Finnish identity. Ilmari Tapiovaara was awarded a total of six gold medals at the Milan Triennials as well as many other important awards throughout his career. 23.6" W | 29.5" d | 26.7" h | seat: 15.4" h.
