    hivemodern.com
Design Norman Cherner, 1958. Molded plywood, solid beech arms. Made in the USA by The Cherner Chair Company. The Cherner family is proud to realize the reintroduction of the famed "Cherner Chair". Designed by Norman Cherner for Plycraft in 1958, this chair is found in design collections throughout the world, including the Vitra Design Museum. The Cherner Chair is still regarded as one of the most dramatic designs utilizing the technology of molding plywood. Like the 1958 original, the Cherner armchair utilizes a molded plywood beech core seat with a unique construction of laminated plywood in graduated thickness with face veneers in beech or walnut. The graceful and sweeping arms are made of solid beech which gives the chair additional strength and beauty. Each chair is manufactured from the original drawings, molds and specifications by Cherner Chair, a Cherner family company headed by the designer's sons. The "walnut stained walnut" option has a walnut seat that has been covered with a walnut finish, which give the core and walnut veneer a uniform appearance. The "walnut-clear stain" option has a walnut seat and has been covered with a clear finish, which emphasizes the contrast between the exposed beech core and walnut face veneer. 26.5" w | 21.5" d | 31.5" h | seat: 18" h | arms: 26" h.
  • Bernhardt Design Chiara Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance, 2013. Upholstery, polished aluminum base. Made in USA by Bernhardt Design. Chiara, by Parisian designer Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance, is a response to a world that can't stop talking. "Our personal and professional worlds have blurred together. Technology and media are ubiquitous. Chiara lounge chair is a refuge from our overstimulated world," says Duchaufour-Lawrance. For the seat, Duchaufour-Lawrance drew from the shapes of flower petals and leaves. As a result, the chair cradles without enveloping you. Chiara is at once supportive, but not restrictive. As a modern lounge piece, Chiara's generous open seat swivels and allows you to use the chair in different ways. Chiara is meant to adjust to your needs, rather than dictate how it is to be used. In a world screaming for our attention, Chiara stands out with its invitation to rest, listen and reflect. Born in South France, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a designer of objects and interior environments. Following in the footsteps of his father, a sculptor, his artistic interests developed at an early age. Growing up in this creative atmosphere, he had the opportunity to define his own language: using natural shapes with smooth and organic lines which remain fluid and structured at the same time. After earning a degree in Metal Sculpture from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art, he studied furniture design at the renowned Les Arts Décoratifs. Chiara is fully upholstered in your choice of textile with a polished aluminum self-return swivel base. 33" w | 29" d | 29" h | seat: 16.5" h.

Design Pierre Paulin, 1960. Foam upholstered shell, chrome or powder coat frame. Made in The Netherlands by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. True design is timeless. It survives all trends. Without aging. Take Oyster for instance. Modern, exciting, smart, respectable, comfortable. One of the first designs in the Classic Collection and 'the easy' chair of the sixties. The chromed metal base is so minimalist that the seating shell seems to float. The Oyster was in the Artifort collection until 1979 and by request, it was brought back into the collection in 1999. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric.
