  • Eiffel - Arm Shell By Modernica
    2modern.com
The Case Study Fiberglass Eiffel Chair is a classic icon and its name holds no enigma. Pick your shell and choose the wire-frame in either chrome-plated steel or black powder-coated steel for a visually satisfying chair. The Fiberglass Shell Chairs were originally designed in 1948. The shell chairs were first available in the spring of 1950. The first runs of the chairs were produced in only three colors: greige, elephant-hide gray, and parchment - all of which had interesting translucent qualities. The chairs were distributed until 1983. In 2000, Modernica revived this potentially lost art of high-pressure, molded fiberglass. Modernica creates each shell, by hand, one-by-one, in their Los Angeles factory - just as they had been designed, developed, and produced in Southern California in the 1950s. Modernica uses all of the original presses and specialized equipment obtained from Century Plastics. Modernica creates each chair with the charge of adhering to the original tactile qualities, texture, and characteristics that alone are unique to the fiberglass shell chair. Choose from a wide range of shell colors and chair base options. Modernica offers the flexibility to build a chair to suit your individual style and needs. Features. Handcrafted in Los Angeles, U.S.A. Fiberglass chairs contain no (PBDE) Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers. Fire safety tested. Available in many colors of fiberglass.

  • Artifort Orange Slice Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1960. Beech shells, upholstery, steel. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. Designed in 1960, the Orange Slice is a timeless icon that looks as fresh and inspired today as it did when it was first created. Anyone who sees several Slice chairs together cannot fail to be touched by the playfulness fo the composition. From different visual angles, the Orange Slice shows several stages of 'curl up'. In fact, the chair seems to change shape every time you look at it. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances. Low: 31.5" w | 33" d | 27.6" h | seat: 16.1" h. High: 31.5" w | 33" d | 31.5" h | seat: 17.7" h. Base is offered in chrome. Matching ottoman also available.
