    Hand picked set of 15 Antique Books. Takes up almost 17 inches of shelf space. These are all in darker shades of Red, Blue and Green. They date between 1882 and 1930. This set has a great aged patina and displays nicely. The books are in good vintage condition or better and will show signs of age and use. Bookends not included.

In 1929 He Moved To Mexico. Spratling Was Introduced To And Became A Participant In The Artistic Circles Of Mexico.  His Activities In Promoting The Art Of Diego Rivera Among New York Galleries Led To His Participation In The First Exhibition Of Mexican Arts Held In The United States.  The Exhibit Was Funded By The Carnegie Institute And Opened At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art In New York. Dwight Morrow, The Us Ambassador To Mexico, Suggested To Spratling In 1931 That Taxco Had Been The Site Of Silver Mines For Centuries, But Taxco Had Never Been Considered A Location Where Jewelry And Objects Of Silver Were Designed And Made.  Subsequently, Spratling Hired An Experienced Goldsmith From Iguala Who Moved To Taxco And Created Silver Jewelry Of Spratling’S Design. Other Craftsmen Joined Spratling's Shop And Produced Tin Ware, Copper Items, Textiles And Furniture - All Designed By Spratling.  These Earliest Designs Were Based On Pre-Columbian Motifs As Well As Simple Themes Utilizing Rope Borders, Strap Designs And Other Such Basic Ideas. Spratling Has Been Called By Many "a Renaissance Man."  Throughout Mexico He Is Acknowledged As "the Father Of Mexican Silver." William Spratling Was Killed On August 7, 1967 In An Automobile Accident Just Outside Taxco.

    We took the month of October off for Halloween purposes, but we're back with the final three films by Hayao Miyazaki. If you'd like a refresher course, you can read my previous Miyazaki Masterclass essays right here. After his Oscar win with the magical Spirited Away, Miyazaki took a bit of a break. He'd made eight films in his nearly 3 decade career and produced many more with his company Studio Ghibli. His films all possessed a magical, fairy tale aspect, but his last two movies, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away had been deeply personal, much darker than his previous work, and emotionally taxing. He could have stopped making films and his legacy still would have been secured, and celebrated. But he wasn't quite finished yet. For his ninth film, Miyazaki would return to familiar ground with castles and magicians and curses and flying, but from a different point of view.
