"Hey Joshy!" Marisol squealed as she skipped in. She squeezed herself between me and Josh and got right to flirting. She'd basically pushed me into Tom's lap and after blushing, I apologized and sat next to Christina on the floor.
"Who invited her?" I whispered.
She shrugged. "I didn't. Crazy biitch gets on my nerves," she answered and took a bite of popcorn.
I laughed a little but then gagged when I saw Marisol twirling her hair and batting her eyelashes.
"Umm...Marisol?" I said and she looked over. "No offense, but why are you here?"
She just giggled. I hated that laugh so fricken much. "I just wanted to stop by and see my two BFFs!" she told me like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I had no idea that Joshy would be here too!"
Josh just looked at her weirdly. "Can you not call me Joshy? It freaks me out," he told her and instead of pouting like I'd expected, she just giggled again and hit his arm.
"Oh you joker."
"I'm not kidding," he said. "I'm dead serious Marisol."
I laughed a little and hid it by putting a piece of popcorn in my mouth.
She just rolled her eyes and smiled at him. "OMG! Tom! What are you doing here?" she asked finally noticing him.
He smiled fakely at her. "Oh, hey Marisol. I just moved back..." he answered.
"That's AWESOME!" she practically yelled. "You and Lei were soooo cute together! Like for real, I thought you'd be together forever."
I looked down and Christina started. "Hey Marisol, you might wanna go fix your makeup. It's getting a little smudgy," she said gesturing to her eyes.
Though it was true, I knew the real reason Chrissy sent her away.
"Oh no! Thanks Chris!" she yelled and ran into the bathroom.
I rolled my eyes and turned to Christina.
"I hate her!" she whisper shouted. "I'm not fuckiing Chris! NO ONE can call me that!! I'm not a fuckiing dude. Biitch."
I covered her mouth with my hand. "Calm down. No need to get PG-13 on us," I told her with a smile. "And I know what you mean, she's pretty annoying."
"Annoying?! She was here ten fricken seconds before she started calling me Joshy," Josh complained.
"Yeah...it doesn't really seem like she changed much," Tom observed. "It's a shame."
I nodded in agreement and looked up when the bathroom door closed and Marisol's footsteps were heard.
"Get ready Joshy," I said teasingly and he just gave me a look.
Marisol came back and sat next to Josh again. "Better?" she asked.
She'd caked on a whole new layer of makeup to her already overdone look. "Umm...yeah," Christina said and turned back to the movie.
After it was over, Marisol started again. "We should watch a scary movie!" she exclaimed.
"Why?" Christina asked.
Marisol gave us looks and glanced over at Josh. "You know," she said.
Ahh. So that's how it was going to be. She wanted us to put on a scary movie so that she could jump right into his lap when she got scared.
"I think we should too," Tom said casually. "But whatever's good with you guys."
I sighed and put on the first scary movie that came to my hand. I didn't even look at the title as I walked back to Christina.
"There's room up here," Tom said and scooted over so that there was enough space for me to sit there.
I looked to Christina and she shrugged so I sat down next to Tom.
"Marisol, will you switch places with me?" Josh asked.
"Why?" she responded.
"I uh...I can't see that well from over here," he said and I raised my eyes at the lameass excuse.
"Okay," she said and moved over so that I was now in between Josh and Tom again. The movie started and I shrunk back into the couch.
Tom had his arm around my shoulders again and I winced as someone was killed. "This is gross," I complained.
He just rubbed my arm gently. "Shh...don't worry, it's just a movie," he assured me.
I nodded and looked over when I felt Josh's eyes on me. "What?" I mouthed.
He nodded his head towards Marisol who now had her hands clutched tightly around his arm and was slowly inching closer to him.
I laughed a little and he mouthed: "Help me!"
I rolled my eyes and moved Tom's arm off of me. He looked at me with a questioning face but I just held up my finger to signal him to wait.
Another creature jumped out and before Marisol could make her move, I hid my face in Josh's chest. He smelled just like his cologne. It was undescribable but at the same time I loved it. I felt his arm go around me and I could practically feel the daggers Marisol was probably shooting at me.
He rubbed my back. "Don't worry," he murmured.
I nodded and sat back up. He kept his arm around me for the rest of the movie and I had to endure the stares/glares from Tom, Marisol and Christina.
After everyone had left, I was cleaning up.
"Hey," Josh said.
"I thought you were gone," I said casually as I loaded the dishwasher.
"Nope. Thanks for helping me tonight with the whole Marisol issue," he said.
"No problem," I answered. "I like bugging her sometimes. It's a great stress reliever."
He just grinned cockily. "But you know, I don't think you were pretending," he said and walked closer to me.
I washed my hands in the sink and wiped them dry with a towel. "Oh really? And why would you think that?" I asked.
"Well you were holding onto me pretty tight," he said and took another step toward me. "And you didn't move my arm afterwards."
I rolled my eyes. "You're so full of yourself sometimes," I said. "It's called acting Josh. Anyone can do it."
He closed the distance between us so he was inches away from me again. "You're not that good an actress," he told me.
I looked up at those beautiful blue eyes and bit my lip. "Oh really?" I asked.
He shook his head no. I leaned up and kissed him. After I pulled away and looked at his bewildered yet happy expression I just grinned.
"Told you," he said.
I just laughed. "You know, I'm obviously a better actress than you thought. Because I didn't feel anything."
He raised his eyebrows. "That's a lie."
I shrugged. "You'll never know. Besides Joshy, I wouldn't want to upset Marisol. After all, we are BFFs."
He laughed. "She's insane," he pointed out.
I nodded. "Exactly. So I don't wanna be walking around school and get tackled by that crazy girl."
"Aww, I'll protect you baby," he said and wrapped his arms around my waist.
I moved them away and sighed. "I told you. I'm not interested. You're a great guy Josh but I'm just not going to fall for that again. Love is nonexistent and I'm not going to play into the same game everyone else is."
He shook his head. "No way are you getting away that easily. I /know/ you like me. And I'm going to prove to you that love /does/ exist," he said surely.
I sighed. "How are you going to do that?" I asked.
He just grinned and kissed me once more. "You'll see," he called as he walked out the door. "Let the games begin!"
