Monday, June 4th: It's time for auditions in Broadway. Everyone's hushing to the theaters, hoping to score at least a small role in one of the hottest productions for this season. Make sure to try to audition for as many as you can, because getting a job here is hard. You can head over to the following auditions:
- Les Misérables (a revival just in time for the movie!)
Milena “Lena” Young | BTLNS
When I heard about the audition for Wicked, my heart literally stopped. I have seen the musical a few times in the U.S. and in London. Also I read the books. Basically, I knew I was meant to play Elphaba plus I knew every song by heart. I kissed Henry good morning as I woke up. “Hey babe”, he said scratching his head and stretching. “Today’s the Wicked audition” I said feeling a little nervous, but I shook it off quickly. “You’re going to be great” He said as he got out of bed and headed to the bathroom.
I started my breakfast, some oatmeal with a banana nut muffin on the side. After I finished my breakfast, Henry walked into the kitchen after taking a shower. “What do you want to eat?” I asked him. “Don’t worry I’ll eat later before I go to work” He said as he leaned in a kissed me. “Good luck today” Henry said before kissing me goodbye.
I took a deep breath as I greeted the casting director, the director and choreographer. “Hello, I’m Milena Young and I’m here to audition for the part of Elphaba” I said confidently. They nodded and the music from Defying Gravity started.
“Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by
The rules of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes
I finished the song in time and I felt like I killed my audition. I remembered to thank them and left after they told me ‘we would be in touch’. Leaving confident was a custom of mine. I walked to my apartment grinning. Feeling my phone vibrate, I looked at my phone and saw it was Henry. He always called after an audition.
