Carl Hansen & Son Ch28p Upholstered Easy Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1951. Solid oak or oak/walnut, veneer, cold foam, upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The CH28 was originally designed in 1952. It is an elegant, very comfortable, pure wood easy chair that only Wegner could design. The sawbuck design is closely related to Wegner's CH29 dining chair. Suitable for use on its own or in groups. CH28 is available in an oak/walnut combination (reminiscent of Wegner's original oak/teak combination) or in pure oak. Wood species can be finished with natural oil, white pigmented oil (pure oak only) or lacquered and offered with upholstered seat & back. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller´s architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers´ Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959. 30.3" h | 26.4" d | 28.7" w | seat: 14.6" h | arms: 24" h.

Carl Hansen & Son Ch33 Dining Chair With Upholstered Seat
Design Hans Wegner, 1957. Solid wood, veneer, cold foam, upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The CH33 dining chair expresses many typical aspects of Hans J. Wegner's best designs. It is a very light, graceful chair that functions as a dining chair or as a sculptural addition to almost any room. It offers great comfort and stability as a classic chair that references the simple lines of the 50s and 60s. Every part of the Ch33 chair employs rounded, organic forms. The tapered legs and cross pieces are thickest where they need to support load-bearing joints, and gracefully become more slender as the design allows. The slightly splayed legs make for a very robust construction and visually signal the light chair's structural stability. The joints connecting the back legs to the backrest are visible classic examples of Hans J. Wegner's penchant for honest design that highlights good craftsmanship. The CH33 seat and backrest are made from pressure-formed hardwood laminate. It comes in an all-wood version, or with upholstered seat in your choice of fabric or leather. Note: the buttons on the seat & back are always the same wood as the frame. 29.1" h | 18.9" d | 21.7" w | seat: 17.3" h. Quick-ship versions: - oak/walnut back - oiled - thor 301 seat leather.

Carl Hansen & Son Ch29 Sawbuck Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1952. Hardwood, upholstery, finish options. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. By the unusual construction of CH 29 Wegner achieved a couple of advantages. First of all it made it possible to build a chair as sturdy as any traditional chair but with the use of fewer parts. Another advantage was the comfort, as the construction enabled him to make the seat wider in the front, which along with the heavily curved back made the chair extremely comfortable. The cutting out in the sides of the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the joint between forelegs and hind legs are details making the sawhorse chair a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture. CH 29 is mainly used in private dining environments but restaurants have also recognized its comfort in combination with its space-saving dimensions. 31.9" h | 19.3" d | 20.9" w | seat: 17.3" h.

Carl Hansen & Son Ch37 Dining Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1962. Hardwood, natural cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. CH 37 dates back to 1962 it is the armchair companion to the CH 36 and is characterized by its simple design and excellent back support. It is a small chair with vertical legs, a plain back and its seat of rope woven into a simple pattern. Its modest exterior tends towards the anonymous. Nevertheless Wegners conscious design is obvious in a small way. The legs taper off slightly towards the floor and this detail is repeated on the rear legs from the seat upwards to make the appearance lighter and more elegant. The curve of the horizontal back's top edge is made narrower than its lower edge to improve the support. The delicate appearance might lead to the false conclusion that CH 36 is not a sturdy chair. It was, therefore, decided to have the chair tested thoroughly at The Technological Institute of Denmark before its release. History says that the chair went through the required 60,000 rockings without problems, but that the staff forgot to turn off the machinery before the weekend. On Monday morning they found the test equipment broken down while the chair still was in one piece. 31.9" h | 19.7" d | 22.8" w | seat: 17.7" h.
