  • CH46 Armchair Soap Oak Frame with Natural Cord Seat
    conranshop.co.uk
The wonderfully simple oak wood CH46 and CH47 dining chairs were designed by the celebrated architect and product designer, Hans J Wegner in 1965. Made from solid oak with a hand-woven paper cord seat, the design uses timbers, sourced from responsible sawmills in Wegner’s native Denmark. Wegner was one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century, having created over 500 different chairs over the course of his career. He began work as a cabinetmaker, providing him with a profound respect for the properties and beauty of wood, as well as exacting joinery techniques. A master craftsman, he joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, designing furniture pieces for the new city hall in Århus in 1940, the same year in which he began collaborating with Holger Hasen, whose company, Carl Hansen & Son continue to produce Wegner’s classic chairs, including the CH46 and the iconic Wishbone Chair. This gorgeous chair brings warmth to the dining room with simple elegance and intricate hand-carved details. Its sculptural shape fits perfectly with the Daisy Dining Table , but its light and modernist appearance makes it a good companion for many dining room settings. The hand-carved floral motifs have a subtle appearance, but a touch of artistic expression to the piece. Daisy Chair is made in sustainably harvested wood. It is hand-finished using eco-friendly Danish Oil. This chair is a part of the Daisy Collection, which also includes: Daisy Dining Table , Daisy Side Table and Daisy Coffee Table. Manulution buys walnut and cherry logs from private orchards throughout Bosnia. These are trunks of old trees, which are cut when their productive life of fruit bearing is over and need to be replaced by new ones. They are bought directly from villagers, often in very small quantities, whenever it is offered. Other hardwoods (i.e. maple, oak, elm, and ash) are sourced from public forestry companies, the management of which has vastly improved in recent years. The forest certification process has started and several forests are FSC certified. There is also concrete evidence that forests are exploited sustainably. A recent forestry inventory (financed and supported by the World Bank) has shown that Bosnia's forest volume has increased significantly since the last inventory was conducted in 1960s. In fact, the study indicated that Bosnia, ostensibly, has more trees per capita than any country in Europe or Central Asia.

    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1957. Solid wood, veneer, cold foam, upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The CH33 dining chair expresses many typical aspects of Hans J. Wegner's best designs. It is a very light, graceful chair that functions as a dining chair or as a sculptural addition to almost any room. It offers great comfort and stability as a classic chair that references the simple lines of the 50s and 60s. Every part of the Ch33 chair employs rounded, organic forms. The tapered legs and cross pieces are thickest where they need to support load-bearing joints, and gracefully become more slender as the design allows. The slightly splayed legs make for a very robust construction and visually signal the light chair's structural stability. The joints connecting the back legs to the backrest are visible classic examples of Hans J. Wegner's penchant for honest design that highlights good craftsmanship. The CH33 seat and backrest are made from pressure-formed hardwood laminate. It comes in an all-wood version, or with upholstered seat in your choice of fabric or leather. Note: the buttons on the seat & back are always the same wood as the frame. 29.1" h | 18.9" d | 21.7" w | seat: 17.3" h. Quick-ship versions: - oak/walnut back - oiled - thor 301 seat leather.

First of all it made it possible to build a chair as sturdy as any traditional chair but with the use of fewer parts. Another advantage was the comfort, as the construction enabled him to make the seat wider in the front, which along with the heavily curved back made the chair extremely comfortable. The cutting out in the sides of the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the joint between forelegs and hind legs are details making the sawhorse chair a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture. • Carl Hansen & Son Ch37 Dining Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1962. Hardwood, natural cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. CH 37 dates back to 1962 it is the armchair companion to the CH 36 and is characterized by its simple design and excellent back support. It is a small chair with vertical legs, a plain back and its seat of rope woven into a simple pattern. Its modest exterior tends towards the anonymous. Nevertheless Wegners conscious design is obvious in a small way. The legs taper off slightly towards the floor and this detail is repeated on the rear legs from the seat upwards to make the appearance lighter and more elegant. The curve of the horizontal back's top edge is made narrower than its lower edge to improve the support. The delicate appearance might lead to the false conclusion that CH 36 is not a sturdy chair. It was, therefore, decided to have the chair tested thoroughly at The Technological Institute of Denmark before its release. History says that the chair went through the required 60,000 rockings without problems, but that the staff forgot to turn off the machinery before the weekend. On Monday morning they found the test equipment broken down while the chair still was in one piece. 31.9" h | 19.7" d | 22.8" w | seat: 17.7" h.
