  • Josef Hoffmann Hoffmann Side Chair
    dwr.com
Josef Hoffmann is well known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs – several intended for cafés – that he designed early in the 20th century. The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement can be seen in his work, but Hoffmann also embraced the industrial age. Rather than rejecting traditional decoration, he succeeded in making it serve structural principles, which he believed should determine the forms of buildings, interiors and objects. Whether admiring one of his chairs or the Sanatorium Purkersdorf he designed in 1903, you can see Hoffmann’s emphasis on straight, unadorned lines, characteristics that are in keeping with the style of the Viennese Secession. The Hoffmann Side Chair (1925), designed in collaboration with Josef Frank, is made at the bentwood factory founded by Michael Thonet in 1861. Made in the Czech Republic.

  • Original BTC Titan 3 Pendant & Diffuser - Black
    shophorne.com
We love the classic industrial look of the Titan Pendant. Designer Peter Bowles used an actual mold from the 1940's that produced these lamps for offices and factories at the time, but then he updated it for a more modern setting. We think it's an ideal choice for a kitchen, dining room, or workspace, since it is mostly downward lighting. But, if brightness isn't your thing, it comes with a frosted glass diffuser to give a softened, glowing light. The lamp is UL listed and suitable for commercial spaces. This lamp is the larger version of the Titan 1. Manufactured in a factory in the UK dedicated to green manufacturing practices. 150W (max) incandescent or compact fluorescent bulb. 5' black braided cable and aluminum ceiling rosette. White interior. Includes frosted glass diffuser for a softening of the light.

One of Danish designer, Hand J. Wegner’s earlier models, the CH25 low back armchair was constructed in 1950 and is now a classic example of mid-century modern design. The chair is hand-woven using a unique pattern that requires more than 400 metres of paper cord. It takes a trained craftsman 8-10 hours to complete a single chair. With such delicacy, care and attention that go into each individual model, the CH25 is a tribute to traditional craftsmanship, and its light, natural appearance means it handsomely complements a variety of interior styles. A chair to sit and while away the time, on a lazy afternoon, its low reclining back makes this the ideal for relaxing. Wegner was one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century, having created over 500 different chairs over the course of his career. He began work as a cabinetmaker, providing him with a profound respect for the properties of wood, as well as exacting joinery techniques. He joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, designing furniture pieces for the new city hall in Århus in 1940, the same year in which he began collaborating with Holger Hasen, whose company, Carl Hansen & Son continue to produce Wegner’s classic chairs, including the CH25 and the iconic Wishbone Chair.
