cecily neville was the wife of richard plantagenet, duke of york. when he attempted to seize the crown from henry vi, she effectively became the first lady of england, though never officially queen. her joy was short lived however, as her husband and seventeen year old son were killed in battle shortly thereafter.
she was the mother of two kings: edward iv and richard iii. anne easter smith's novel, "queen by right," explores cecily's life in far more detail. it is a wonderful book; i recommend it to all those who love historical fiction.
