Polyvore Central Coordinator

Polyvore is in need of a central coordinator & sunshine-maker! We're looking for an energetic generalist / jack of all trades to help our team 'run' faster. You would be responsible for managing the office, handling our outsource HR & benefits provider, managing the expenses, ordering supplies & food, helping to organize parties, playing community peace officer, and doing whatever it takes to make Polyvore a success! We're looking for someone who is resourceful, organized, detail-oriented, has a strong work ethic, good writing skills, and a fun, positive attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Own the relationship with our 3rd party HR/Benefits provider
  • Manage the office, landlord, service providers
  • Manage expenses (simple AP & AR)
  • Make sure office is running smoothly, e.g. make sure the phones work and the kitchen has munchies!
  • Answer office phone / take messages
  • Help with recruiting and facilitate on-boarding process for new hires, etc.
  • Help police the Polyvore online community (such as managing abuse queue, following up on requests & comments)
Requirements
  • Detail oriented and very organized
  • Internet savvy
  • Polyvore.com member
  • College degree a plus but not required
  • Must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • HR experience a plus
  • AP/AR experience a plus

Public Relations / Marketing / Community Manager

Be Polyvore's liaison to the outside world, as well as a liaison to our growing user community (230,000+ registered users)! We're looking for someone who loves fashion and is enthusiastic and creative to help with press, ad campaigns, viral marketing, blogging, community outreach, and support.   • Develop written materials, including blog posts, press releases, and Q&As.
  • Do community outreach, including gathering feedback and communicating changes to our users
  • Create and execute marketing campaigns
  • Answer press inquiries and support questions

Software Engineers

Polyvore has a ton of interesting technical projects. We are looking for smart, motivated engineers to own them. If you're a JavaScript guru, we have a powerful AJAX application (the Polyvore editor) that you can help beef up. If you have a background in data mining, we're sitting on a goldmine of interesting shopping data that you can play with. If you're an infrastructure / backend person, you can help us scale our systems to support our ever-growing traffic.

Requirements
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent (PhD a plus).
  • Several years of software development experience.
  • Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems
  • Experience with Unix/Linux, Perl, Mysql, Apache, Solr, information retrieval, network programming and/or developing large software systems a plus.

Senior System Administrator (Linux)

Want to help us set up our first colo? We're looking for a hardcore Linux geek with knowledge of systems and database configuration/tuning who can help us manage and scale our production systems. Being able to pick new things up quickly and a positive attitude are also key. We currently use Mysql, Squid, Apache + mod_perl, Solr and some AWS services.

Responsibilities
  • Ownership of the company's systems infrastructure across multiple data centers, including hardware, networking, security, OS, monitoring, email and file systems.
  • Responsible for all data center operations: hardware and software/OS installations and upgrades, 24x7 oncall rotation, monitoring, networking setup and tuning.
  • Maintain essential services and improve the performance, stability and fault tolerance of its systems and network infrastructure.
  • Work with developers to document and write maintenance and ongoing productivity tools.
  • Work with partners, developers, and users to improve the company's systems and design/plan for future needs.
  • Over time, expect to understand our entire software stack, from kernel issues to application deployment.
Requirements
  • Extensive (5+ years) experience with Linux systems.
  • Extensive experience managing 50+ node clusters (automation is key).
  • Experience with at least one major programming language such as Perl.
  • Experience with a variety of unix shell scripting languages such as bash.
  • Working knowledge of network configuration/tuning and load balancing.
  • Experience administering/tuning Mysql, Squid and Solr.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to data centers as needed.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
