Get Retro Gorgeous the Easy Way with calivintage

People often ask me how I achieve my classic, vintage-inspired makeup. I've been sporting the same variation of liquid liner, bold lips, and heavy fringe for several years, and I've tried a lot of different beauty products along the way, so today I thought I'd share my current beauty essentials.

Even though my look is pretty simple, people are often surprised to discover the number of steps in my routine. It's all about applying most of your makeup in a very subtle and natural way to really help make your eyes and lips pop. I start with a clean base and dab Tart Maracuja Creaseless Concealer under the eyes to cover up my dark circles. Then I use a Beauty Blender sponge to apply Make Up Forever HD Foundation all over my face. I have light to medium olive-toned skin and I find that they're one of the few brands that caters to my skin tone. Then I dab Tarte Cheek Stain in Natural Beauty on the apples of my cheeks for a natural flush.

You can continue on with just this as a base, or you can do a bit of contouring by sweeping Smashbox Bronze Lights beneath your cheekbones and Chanel Eclat Lumier as a highlighter across the tops of your cheekbones. This just creates a subtle contour to really highlight your facial structure. I set the look with Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder.

From there, I sweep a pale, shimmery shadow like Stila Eye Shadow in Kitten all over my lids with my trusty Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer as a base. I find that this primer really helps my eye makeup to stay in place all day without any creasing or smudging. For a bold look, I apply three (yes, three) coats of Diorshow Blackout Waterproof Mascara to my top and bottom lashes to really emphasize the eye, and finish off with Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in a classic cat-eye shape for a retro vibe.

I love a bright, bold lip. For a bold red, I recommend: YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Rouge or Mac russian Red. For orange or orange/red: Nars Heatwave or Make Up For Ever in Bright Orange. For a bright pink: YSL Rouge Pure Couture in Le Fuchsia or Nars Schiap.
