Spring 2013 has seen a surfeit of bold shades and fearless prints, so no less than equally daring eye makeup would do. This time around instead of the traditional pastel shadow and demure liner we’ve seen in seasons past, makeup artists sent some truly statement-making eyes down the runway. Dual-winged liner, Day-Glo color combinations and theatrically overstated swathes of shadow appeared at shows as diverse as Marchesa, Anna Sui and Peter Som.
It’s not a “soft” trend in the least—sky blue, cerise, canary, nectarine and gold were the most popular shades, and many shows complemented them with sharp streaks of liquid liner. The look requires a deft hand and a flair for the dramatic, but it’s one of the season’s most exciting beauty ideas.
