I held my bag close and sprinted across the parking lot. Rushing through the heavy ooak doors, I hopped the steps at lightning speed. Probably the fastest this school has ever seen. But still not fast enough.
"I'm here!" I panted, trying to catch my breath, as I stumbled into my homeroom. My teacher, Mrs.Morrison, glared at me above her spectacles.
"You're late again, Eileen. One more time, and you'll be down the hall in detention, with Mr. Stevens and myself." she barked, and I cringed, rushing to my seat.
My best friend, Kirstin, rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at Mrs. Morrison. I held back a giggle.
"So why were you late this morning?" Kirstin asked, serious again.
"I couldn't fall asleep last night. And when I did, it caused me to oversleep. Plus, I've been having those..dreams, again." I admitted, color rushing to my pale cheeks.
Kirsten sighed. "I hate to break it to you Eileen, but it's NEVER going to happen. You've been thinking about him for months now. And he doesn't know you exist."
"Wow, thanks for being so supportive." I snapped. I looked over at Taylor. I've had a major crush on him forever. But he was one of the most popular guys in school. But I knew for a fact that someday, we would be together, and everything would be right.
"Look, the only reason I'm saying this is because I care about you. I don't want to see you get hurt. And besides, someone else already likes you." she said, winking.
"Who?" I said, widening my eyes.
"Josh Benson." she said, looking down.
I tried not to let my dissapointement show, but it was hard.
Josh wasn't my type at all. He just didn't have that specialness that surrounded Taylor like the thick cloud of cologne he sprayed on every day. True, Josh wasn't bad looking, with dark brown hair and brown eyes, plus a tanned complexion, but he just didn't have that extra spark, which was what I loved about Taylor. Taylor had wavy black hair, blue eyes, and the cutest dimples I have ever seen.
"Well?' Kirsten asked.
"He's not my type." I responded. I turned to look at Josh, who was looking at me. He pretended to be looking at the clock above my head, when we locked eyes. I rolled my eyes, and turned back to Kirsten.
"Trust me, I have a brilliant plan to get Taylor." I said, grinning.
She sighed. "Go on."
"Well, I've noticed that there is ONE thing in common with all of his girlfriends. They are all pretty and popular. SO, I am going to become like them! But when he's with me, he'll realize I was the one all along!" I exclaimed.
Kirsten shook her head.
"There are SO many gaps in your plan." she began.
"I know, but it WILL work!" I said. The bell rang. and I headed for my next class.
