A Day in the 'Harlot Circle'
UPDATED STORY: Tell me what you thinkkk!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoebe Anderson-Macey
April Henderson
Victor LaTrossa
Dylan Henderson
“Good morning, Mrs. Anderson-Macey,” I said wiping my palms on my thighs before extending them for a hand shake.
“Call me Phoebe, we’re not at Victorian anymore…” she said walking past not acknowledging my hand. “I’ve read up on you editorial work.”
“You have?” I choked.
“Well, you read up on me didn’t you?”
“Of Course I did,” I said putting on my game face, “ Your editorial in the November/December volume this past winter was superb.”
“Thank-you. You writing is well done but lacks style. With help and mentoring you could go far.”
“Well isn’t that what you’re for?” I joked, lightening the mood.
“I’ll tell you what, I need help writing an article for next months issue. I’ll give a good report to headmistress Queller if you can produce a publishable article by 6 o’clock.”
“I’ll try my best ma’am,” I said taking the manila folder from her hands.”
“I’m sure you’ll do fine,” she said taking a drink of her Chai latte “You’ll work in there,” she pointed me in the direction of an empty office with a desk and a Mac book. “Good luck,” she said pulling the door up as she left. I opened the folder and sifted through the pictures and magazine articles. I pulled out my iPhone and started to send Erika a text, but there was a knock on the door.
“Uh, come in,” I called putting my phone in my lap.
“Hey, I’m April. I’ll be your assistant today. I’m just outside if you need me.” The face at the door startled me. April was tall and beautiful, around 5’ 8” and had long black hair. She had green striking green eyes and a perfect smile.
“Thanks, I’m Em. How long have you been working for Mrs. Anderson-Macey?”
“Oh, Phoebe? Just a little over three years,” she replied. “How did you get here?”
“I’m a senior at Victorian Academy and I proudly participated in Senior Skip Day, and this is my punishment.”
“Really?” April asked. She put down her folders and walked closer to my desk. “What’d you do?”
“My two best friends and I went to Disney World,” I replied taking a sip of my coffee. “We had a good time, but this is my punishment.”
“APRIL!”
“Ouch, gotta go. Duty calls.” April left, answering the call of Mrs. Anderson-Macey. “Bye!” she waved on her way out the door.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Okay, so will you be home by like 7?” Erika asked on the on one line. I looked around the office I was working in, papers were littered all over the floor. Snickers wrappers filled the trashcans.
“Yeah, cause we’re having a movie night. In Erika’s room…” Samara said. Ah, movie nights were the epitome of schooling.
“My deadline is 6. I need to be done by then,” I said cradling my phone between my shoulder and my ear.
“Well hurry Mean Girls won’t wait forever…” Erika said.
“Listen, I…” I was interrupted by the door opening. “Hang on, girls.” My mouth dropped and I’m sure that I was drooling. Standing in the doorway was the hottest boy I had seen in forever. He had black hair and familiar green eyes.
“Hey, April told me to I should ask you to dinner,” he said. “I’m Dylan, by the way.”
“Oh,um. Yeah, hang on,” I stuttered. “Girls, I’m going to have to call you back…” I said into my phone hanging up. “Um, yeah. Dinner?”
“Yeah. April, works outside…she’s my sister.”
“Oh, really,” I said pushing my hair behind her my ears.
“Yeah, I stopped by to pick her up for dinner and she suggested I invite you too. We’re headed uptown. Care to join us…”
“Emily. I’m Emily,” I said gathering my stuff. “And I’d love to go to dinner…” I said.
“Sweet, I’ll let April know,” Dylan said closing the door. I picked up my phone and sent a quick text to Erika and Samara…I had a feeling I wouldn’t be watching Mean Girls tonight.
“Ready to go?” Dylan said, handing me my coat from behind the door.
“Thanks, and yeah. Let me just drop off my article.” I strode down the hallway to Mrs. Anderson-Macey’s office.
“Good work today, Emily,” she said, her red hair thrown up in a bun and her thin wire glasses slipping on her nose.
“Thank you. Thank you so much!” I said smiling. “And if you ever need an article for another issue…”
“I’ll keep you in mind dear,” she smiled. I nodded and closed her office door.
“Ready, kiddo?” April said taking me by the arm.
“Let’s head out,” Dylan said winking at me.
“So you’re a senior?” Dylan asked me after dinner.
“Yup…” I replied.
“Big plans for after high school?” April asked.
“I want to write,” I said. “It’s been a dream.”
“So that’s why you got paired with Phoebe, huh?”
“Queller works that way,” I said shrugging. “I guess I got lucky, I’ve been hearing horror stories all day.”
“Yeah, Phoebe’s not bad. You just have to get used to her nagging, complaining, and criticism. She’s really nice.”
“Yeah, I just hope she puts in a good word with Queller,” I said. April’s car pulled up to the front gates. “I guess this is me,” I said grabbing my stuff and opening the door, but Dylan beat me to it.
“It was nice to meet you, Emily,” he said helping me out of the car. “I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, I had a good time, thanks guys.” I turned back to Dylan, and said, “I’ll see you later.”
“Bye Emily,” he said kissing me on the cheek.
“Bye Dylan.”

Dear Abby, (RE-EDITED)

Dear Abby, (RE-EDITED)
(Below is the original question, and this is an edit from teh aftermath.)

EDIT:
Well shoot. If he lied to you about something so serious, he's not worth your time. Just let him go. There are other fish in the, ones who are liars. He's not a longterm relationship kinda guy if he thinks it's okay to lie about stuff like that.
Abby.

Dear Abby, If a guy says he will maybe be your boyfriend is that a yes or no usually? this guy is my bestfriend and all of the sudden i forgot what happened, we are debating wether to be a couple or not. And he always says maybe but he wont say no no matter how many times i say ill still be your bestfriend...so is it usually a yes or a no?

Dear scksluvspolyvore,

Ouch. Lemme just say, out of all guy advice questions to answer, this is the hardest. The absolute hardest. So wish me luck, it may not be what you want to hear. So let’s start with analyzing the question. He’s your best friend, which automatically makes the situation awkward. Being really good friends with someone of the opposite sex makes it complicated when things become serious, and hon, I’m talking from experience. With a situation like this you have two options: One. You date, and either hit it off well as a couple or don’t. You break up and life is awkward. Two. You stay just friends and decide to postpone a serious dating relationship.
Speaking from personal experience, your best bet is Two. I dated my best guy friend for three months and it was the most awkward three months of my life. When guys feel attracted to a girl, in a serious way, they are better at showing their affection then when they are not attached in a relationship. Being able to show affection, true affection, is a task that is easier when you don’t feel that you have a certain obligation to a certain person. It’s just hard? Like, if my boyfriend and I were out to eat and a movie, he’d be putting on a show for me. Not being himself, because guys always have that feeling that they HAVE to, not because they WANT to. With option one, life after dating becomes awkward. My best friend and I didn’t even interact for 6 months. It took a looooong time to be friends again, and now we’re even closer.
So, there’s no way to say which is better. You just have to weigh your options. You can be risky and date, and maybe become better friends. Or value your friendship and don’t risk it, but take the chance of losing him to another girl. It’s a tough decision, one of the hardest you’ll ever make. But just remember that the guy you know for eight days may not be as loyal as the one you’ve known for eight years.
Good Luck,
Abby.

emily brown: Torture at it's finest...
Emily Brown: Phoebe Anderson-Macey - Daughter of magnate banker John Macey, graduating from NYU she soon became editor and chief of 'The Harlot Circle' the most acclaimed social magazine on the Upper East Side.
“Shoot, Em. The breakfast!” Erika swore under breath, cursing Queller.
“I know, that’ s why I decided to give you a wake up call. You DID volunteer to meet the caterers at the front…”
“Screw breakfast,” she muttered inter her phone. I could hear her cursing into her pillow on the other end of the phone.
“Uh, no. Get up. Or I’m coming over there.”
“I’m up! Don’t come over here!” Erika mumbled.
“Okay, be out front in ten minutes,” I said before hanging up. I put my phone down on my vanity and finished curling my hair. I let my hair fall around my shoulders and put on my gray dangling earrings from last summer’s vacation in France. I slipped on my white Oxford’s and grabbed my Jaden satchel and headed downstairs.
“How’s everything in the dining hall?” I asked Samara and the new girl Caylee.
“Everything okay?” Sam said as Erika raced passed us.
“the Caterers are here!” she yelled.
“I’ve never seen anyone run in Jimmy Choo’s,” Caylee said giggling.
“It happens more often than you think…” I said. “We should go see if they need any help.” I stalked off after Erika and Samara and Caylee followed.
“The Billings hired servers,” Samara said grabbing a tray of hors d'oeuvre and tightening her grip on a pitcher of orange juice.
“The Billings can also afforded to pay people to drive their drivers around…” I said trailing off. “But that’s not the issue, see they have the means to impress their pairs. We have to work to do it. But in the end, we’ll feel good and hopefully proud of what we’ve done…” I said I watched to limousines pull into the drive. Out stepped ladies dressed to the nines. They were scouring out the decorations as they were seated by a group of Lindels.
“Samara Morgan?” said a dark haired older woman. “I’m Elisabeth Blackwell.”
“Nice to meet you,” she said taking Mrs. Blackwell by the arm. She looked back over her shoulder and mouthed the words ‘help me!’ I smiled and looked at Caylee.
“I guess I need to go find Mrs. Anderson-Macey. I’ll see you later!” I waved over my shoulder as I made my way towards a lady with crazy red hair. I had done my research. I was on my p’s and q’s. Absolutely nothing could make me mess up. Especially not anyone Queller had paired me with.
“Hi! Mrs. Anderson-Macey?” I said extending my hand. “It’s nice to meet you.” She scowled in my direction, and sighed.
“I wish I could say the same. You need work, but I guess that’s why I’m here. Have a seat Emily,” she said dragging out the ‘y’ at the end of my name.
“Yes, ma’am.” I said having a seat. Oh, this was going to be a looong morning.

Emliy Brown: Sr. Skip Day, the Aftermath.
"That assembly was NOT worth my time," Samara complained, as we walked to our lockers. She quickly pulled out her Trig book and smiled at me. "Well, not really, I mean, we've got a chance to come back with this breakfast."
"Yeah, we should call a meeting tonight, all the Dretlers and see what we can scrounge together," I said simply.
"Don't say scrounge, you make it sound like we're getting food from the garbage cans outside Billings, or something," Erika said walking up beside us.
"Well that's about all we're worth..." I trailed off. I looked up at the clock above us, "I have to go, Advanced Lit wait for no one. Bye, dearies." I left Sam and Erika and walked off to my Lit class wondering what on God's green earth I was going to do with myVA Alumna next week after breakfast. I pulled out my iPhone and posted a quick post on my blog hoping the Dretlers would read it before school ended.
This would be one heck of a week.
