...for more details about this set. (well, actually it's about Miley, the set was incidental :))

"Originally, Cyrus seemed pleased with the shots: In a caption running with the photo spread, she is quoted as saying, "I think it's really artsy. It wasn't in a skanky way. Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought that was really cool. That's what she wanted me to do, and you can't say no to Annie.""--Entertainment Weekly

My question is, if she hadn't said she was "embarrassed", would anyone have minded? Personally, and this probably goes WITHOUT saying,...I'm siding with Miss Leibovitz.

It's so irritating that she said she was embarrassed by a beautiful shot taken by a talented photographer when she has put out tons of tasteless self-portraits of herself in just her underwear on myspace. What a slap in the face to Annie.

lol, im just going to say one thing. when i first saw this set i didnt even recognize her.. you know what i saw? a beautiful peace of art Gokarm always uses in her sets. its only when i saw gokarm's description i realised it was her and...i like her more now then i ever did lool...and i hate miley cirus. I instantly realized that whoevr photographed her had just seen a subject she knew she got inspired by and wanted to try to turn it at another angle. And it was a beautiful peace of work. I see a mysterious "Oeuvre D'art"...not MILEY CIRUS WHO IS TRYING TO SHOW HERSELF OFF. seriously anyone who thinks this is supposed to be anything near sexual need to be laughed at...i know i am lol

I used to really like her, I thought her music was cheerful and beautiful, and that she was a sweet girl. But then.. in the blink of an eye she turns. I think the picture is very artistic, just as everyone else is saying, but I also think that she's too young to take such a picture. Vanity Affair is a magazine for adults, and her as a teenage girl does not need to have anything to do with those people. This is just one mistake that her and everyone around her will make in their lives. It doesn't neccessarly mean she's a bad role model. Does it?

Precisely, ck...it looks like Annie set out to take a thought-provoking shot, and she succeeded.

it's not like making art with young models is anything new (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=1423537)
...maybe our culture needs to take a more mature look at art...besides the fact that the youth of today are constantly barraged with the message...grow up faster, be sexy and buy lots of stuff to make you more sexy...be Paris Hilton now!
Is this so very outrageous after all?
Although I have to say an important part of art is to inspire a dialogue so I guess Annie and Gokarm are very successful!

Pedophiles will see what they want to see. Her lipstick isn't smeared, she's not even really wearing any. This is a classical piece, beautifully photographed by an artist. It emotes vulnerability, sadness, sweetness, gentleness...I don't see a girl who is "having a steamy session in the hay", I see a young woman modestly covered up. That's why I made the set, because what I see is a beautiful, inspiring photograph. It's thought-provoking and not at all inappropriate, PARTICULARLY for Vanity Fair.

OK! For all of you that think it's ok for a 15 yr old to do this....it's not just A BACK or A SHOULDER it's the way they have made her to look in the picture, they messed her hair up and her lipstick is smeared, not to mention she is wearing a satin sheet! They made her look like she is getting up from a steamy session in the sack! And who cares if her parents were there?!? Some parents molest their children , just b/c the parent is there does that mean that's ok?!? ....The whole thing is you should not take these types of photographs at 15... especially if you are someone 89% of the female children in the world look up to! And who cares if they dress her older or younger pedophiles know she is a teen and that is what they want to see...her partially naked and looking seductive!

agreed, Jade. If you're in Vanity Fair, you don't want to look like something out of Teen Beat.

Oh, on another note...people keep saying questioning why she should be on the cover of Vanity Fair---Vanity Fair is a culture, fashion, and politics magazine--that is known for controversial photos and in depth interviews with celebrities. This is the magazine that got Lindsay Lohan to admit that she dabbled with cocaine and was a bulimic, and had Demi Moore posed nude and pregnant on their cover. Maybe that's why I wasn't too surprised by Miley Cryus's photos, because I've seen crazier in Vanity Fair. Miley Cyrus is poised to be a billionaire by the time she is eighteen. She is an excellent and obvious choice to be on the cover.,

gokarm, I agree with everything you posted on your blog, however I don't think this girl will take the Britney route. Maybe her appearance on Oprah made me see things different, but to me she is a fifteen year old girl with a decent head on her shoulders and will eventually be able to break apart from her cookie cutter image--or else do what I hope she does by the time she is 22 or so, fall out of the limelight gracefully. Before seeing her on Oprah I thought she was an annoying little girl---but I got convinced by that show that she actually knows who her audience is--which are girls between the set of 4-11. To conclude, P. Diddy once said..."The mo' money we come across, the mo' problems we see." I think he says it the best.

I really don't see the big deal...young girls are pressured everyday to be beautiful, thin, sexual....she is showing her BACK for godsake...people should not be viewing a 15 yr old's back as sexual?! Sigh...i can't keep up with this world.

i think she shouldn't have done the shoot almost all her fans are in elementary. and they see her and they want to do what she does. and if she wants to appeal to a more mature crowd stop making tacky pop songs and maybe they'll buy her cds. no need to go topless. and i cant stand how they are trying to make her a sex symbol she is only 15.

Yeah, I think so too, Elenore. This is an ploy to both have that beautiful shot by Anne, appeal to a new, more mature demographic and still keep her current fans. We'll see if it works.

I don't think she's really embarrassed, i rather think its a plan in order to get more attention+more money.
on the other hand i don't understand why people are shocked. she is already fifteen years old and you can't see ANYTHING.

well, technically, pedophiles like children, not adults. By making her look older, it's not going to turn the pedophiles on as much as when she's all decked out in her "teen" wear.

Not to mention she has her hair and make-up done like someone who's was rolling in the sack all day, and it makes her look so trashy!

Well, the simple truth is that photo may be artsy for someone over 18, but a 15 year old should Not be posing in such a seductive way.... just imagine all the pedophiles buying Vanity Fair this week! This makes her look like the next Britney Spears!
