  • Carl Hansen & Son Ch401 Airline Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1958. Stainless steel, upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. Through the 1960s and further through to the 1970s and 80s - the 'The Kastrup Chair' has been part of the interior of international airports, public offices, hotels and private homes in different configurations. Wegner once remarked: "First and foremost a chair must be comfortable and it must be cared for by the finest craftsmen and not least a chair must also be shaped well." These are simple characteristics, which Hans J. Wegner has always adhered to. The structure of the 'The Kastrup Chair' is based on a blind frame in solid beech wood with legs in stainless steel. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller's architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers' Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959. 23.6" w | 26.8" d | 29.9" h | seat: 15.7" h.

  • Carl Hansen & Son Ch25 Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1949. Oak with hand-woven cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The special profile of the forelegs is probably this chair's most characteristic feature. Their unusual shape make them carry most of the user's weight and serve as a stable support for the armrests at the same time. Another interesting detail is the hind legs, which flush with the rail. The rope weaving of the seat and back form a distinctive pattern. The broad armrests add to the comfort of the chair and make it easy to get up from, even with its low seat height and reclining back. The moderate dimensions fit easily into interiors where space is a factor. The simple choice of materials give it a neutral appearance that make it blend in well. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. • Carl Hansen & Son Hans Wegner Ch88 Stacking Chair With Upholstered Seat
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1955. Solid wood back, upholstery, steel. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. To mark the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner's birth, Carl Hansen & Son has launched Wegner's CH88 chair - a 1955 design that has, to date, existed only as a prototype. The CH88 is versatile both in terms of its appearance and usability thanks to its numerous finish, frame, and room placement options. Characteristically, the upper structure features a steam-bent wooden backrest for back support, with slight curvatures of the backrest's ends providing a natural resting place for the arms. The steel frame, with straight back legs, supports an oval-shaped wooden seat. This blend of materials, combined with a minimalist design, results in a light, organic, industrial expression. And the new, stackable design (stackable up to 4 chairs) offers a valuable benefit. The CH88 is available in beech and oak in a range of finishes. The frame is available in stainless steel, black powder coating and chrome, and the seat with optional leather or textile upholstery. • Power Play Ottoman By Knoll
    2modern.com
Inspired by the surprising strength of the apple crates he had played on as a child, Frank Gehry created this thoroughly original collection of bentwood chair and table designs. Gehry's architecture draws its strength from the sculptural approach with which he has expanded the vocabulary of buildings. Bringing this same approach to furniture, Gehry constructed the entire collection with interwoven strips of maple. The ribbon-like designs transcend the conventions of style by focusing, as the great modernists did, on the essential challenge of deriving form from function. Features: Seat cushon available in a range of KnollTextiles and Spinneybeck leathers for both the chair and ottoman. Resiliency foam used for cushions. Cushions snap-lock to the underside of the chair. Frame constructed of hard white maple veneer strips, laminated 6 to 9 thick with high-bonding urea glue. Thermo-set assembly glue provides structural rigidity without the need for metal connectors. To maximize tension compression, limited assembly glue is used in woven seat: weaves flex in unison for spring-like comfort. Power Club Chair back flexes for added comfort. Clear plastic glides with matte frost finish included. Ottoman has one pair of legs that can be locked in upright position to create a slanted leg and foot rest, or can be folded underneath for low foot rest or floor cushion. The underside of each piece is embossed with the Knoll logo and Frank Gehry's signature. GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified. This product is available in more colors and finishes.
