Pre-owned Edwardian Cotton Batiste and Lace Dress
Day Dresses. From our unique collection of Day Dresses, this piece is offered for sale online by Morphew. Global shipping is available. This is a beautiful summer dress from the 1910s, most likely dating from around 1915-18. The simple cut is elegant and flattering, and the tucks through the shoulders and at the hem provide just enough detail and interest. This would have been worn as daywear by a young lady in the 1910s, perhaps for a walk in a shaded garden or down to the beach. The shape and details are hallmarks of the end of the Belle Epoque era, and foreshadow the rising hemlines and looser rules of modest dress during World War I. Nevertheless, the dress’s simplicity and playful cut allow it to translate perfectly into the modern setting, and it would look wonderful as a sundress. The cut is flattering, the lines are elegantly architectural, and the high quality cotton batiste will keep you cool and comfortable.
