Carl Hansen & Son Hans Wegner Ch88 Stacking Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1955. Solid wood back, wood veneer seat, steel. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. To mark the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner's birth, Carl Hansen & Son has launched Wegner's CH88 chair - a 1955 design that has, to date, existed only as a prototype. The CH88 is versatile both in terms of its appearance and usability thanks to its numerous finish, frame, and room placement options. Characteristically, the upper structure features a steam-bent wooden backrest for back support, with slight curvatures of the backrest's ends providing a natural resting place for the arms. The steel frame, with straight back legs, supports an oval-shaped wooden seat. This blend of materials, combined with a minimalist design, results in a light, organic, industrial expression. And the new, stackable design (stackable up to 4 chairs) offers a valuable benefit. The CH88 is available in beech and oak in a range of finishes. The frame is available in stainless steel, black powder coating and chrome, and the seat with optional leather or textile upholstery. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller´s architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers´ Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959. 30.1" h | 17.5" d | 22.4" w | seat: 17.5" h.

Design Hans Wegner, 1962. Solid wood top, wood frame. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is one of the architects and designers who made Danish Design world famous. Wegner inscribes his name in the history of design first and foremost via a range of tables and chairs which are without predecessors in furniture design, yet stand in their own right as the most natural thing in the world, inevitable like new letters in the alphabet. The simple and elegant CH327 is the ultimate solid wood dining table. It embodies Wegner's ideology and spirit for simplicity. Wegner, with his unique understanding of wood, its possibilities and limitations, created many designs each with its own personality yet in a consistent language. The CH327 is a modern classic, perfect for dining but also makes a handsome desk or meeting table. The table top is made from uninterrupted sections of solid wood running the entire length of the table. This solution, compared to full-width sections, reveals more of the wood's structure, results in a more harmonious surface, and is considerably more difficult to produce. Extension leaves are available in MDF in your choice of black or grey. medium: 74.8" L | 37.4" w | 28.3" h | distance between legs: 50" x 24.2" large: 97.6" L | 37.4" w | 28.3" h | distance between legs: 72.8" x 24.2" extension leaf: 37.4" x 15.7" Quick-ship versions: - 74.8" - oak, oiled.

Another advantage was the comfort, as the construction enabled him to make the seat wider in the front, which along with the heavily curved back made the chair extremely comfortable. The cutting out in the sides of the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the joint between forelegs and hind legs are details making the sawhorse chair a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture. Carl Hansen & Son Ch37 Dining Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1962. Hardwood, natural cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. CH 37 dates back to 1962 it is the armchair companion to the CH 36 and is characterized by its simple design and excellent back support. It is a small chair with vertical legs, a plain back and its seat of rope woven into a simple pattern. Its modest exterior tends towards the anonymous. Nevertheless Wegners conscious design is obvious in a small way. The legs taper off slightly towards the floor and this detail is repeated on the rear legs from the seat upwards to make the appearance lighter and more elegant. The curve of the horizontal back's top edge is made narrower than its lower edge to improve the support. The delicate appearance might lead to the false conclusion that CH 36 is not a sturdy chair. It was, therefore, decided to have the chair tested thoroughly at The Technological Institute of Denmark before its release. History says that the chair went through the required 60,000 rockings without problems, but that the staff forgot to turn off the machinery before the weekend. On Monday morning they found the test equipment broken down while the chair still was in one piece. 31.9" h | 19.7" d | 22.8" w | seat: 17.7" h.

Design Hans Wegner, 1949. Oak with hand-woven cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The special profile of the forelegs is probably this chair's most characteristic feature. Their unusual shape make them carry most of the user's weight and serve as a stable support for the armrests at the same time. Another interesting detail is the hind legs, which flush with the rail. The rope weaving of the seat and back form a distinctive pattern. The broad armrests add to the comfort of the chair and make it easy to get up from, even with its low seat height and reclining back. The moderate dimensions fit easily into interiors where space is a factor. The simple choice of materials give it a neutral appearance that make it blend in well. Carl Hansen & Son Ch36 Dining Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1962. Hardwood, cord caning. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. CH 36 dates back to 1962 and is characterized by its simple design and excellent back support. 31.9" h | 18.9" d | 22.8" w | seat: 17.7" h.

Carl Hansen & Son Ch44 Easy Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1951. Hardwood, cord caning, finish options. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The design of Wegners easy chair is quiet but like all his other designs executed with great consequence down to the last detail. The comfort is optimal for such a light chair with wooden back, woven seat and slim armrests. The comfort may, however, be improved by adding the 2 light CH44 cushions which make the chair a little softer to sit in. The back cushion is suspended from the top of the rear legs where a groove is made to hold the 2 loops of the cushion. One of the advantages of the CH 44 easy chair is its modest dimensions and its low weight, which makes it almost as easy to move around as a dining chair. It is ideal where lack of space prohibits the use of an ordinary armchair or where you want a more airy atmosphere than the room normally offers. 31.5" h | 26" d | 25.2" w | seat: 15.4" h. Design Hans Wegner, 1960. Solid beech frame, upholstery, metal legs. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. "The chair is the thing that is closest to people, so it is important that its detailing is in order." -Hans Wegner. Carl Hansen & Son's close co-operation with Hans J. Wegner's Studio has made it possible to recreate an original Wegner easy chair from a clay model and drawings found in the Studio's archives. Called CH468, the chair was created by Wegner in 1960 but has never been in production - until now. The Studio also had what is, as far as is known, the only existing prototype of the chair. Along with some photos, the prototype inspired them to begin production. CH468 is a sculptural easy chair whose construction, back and neck support afford a variety of very comfortable ways to sit. The craftsmen build the interior frame from wood, just as Wegner designed it. The legs, in brushed stainless steel, create a balanced contrast to the capacious upholstery. Carl Hansen & Son Ch44 - With Seat Cushions
Design Hans Wegner, 1951. Hardwood, cord caning, upholstered cushions. Cushions are offered in cold foam or European down. One of the advantages of the CH 44 easy chair is its modest dimensions and its low weight, which makes it almost as easy to move around as a dining chair. It is ideal where lack of space prohibits the use of an ordinary armchair or where you want a more airy atmosphere than the room normally offers. 31" h | 26" d | 25" w | seat: 15" h.
