  • English Classics Furniture English Antique Style Vertical Four-Drawer Walnut File Cabinet
    english-classics.net
English Classics Furniture English Antique Style Vertical Four-Drawer Walnut File Cabinet
This vertical four-drawer file cabinet was recently hand-crafted by a third-generation English cabinetmaker. Using the finest materials available, including a stunning selection of burl walnut and solid brass hardware, this incredibly strong file cabinet glows with a rich, classic appearance that results from a combination between traditional Georgian style design and high-quality materials. The burl walnut simply looks stunning, due in part to its striking contrast with walnut crossbanding and solid brass hardware, including swan neck style pulls and winged escutcheons. Additionally, the wood has been hand-distressed, hand-finished and hand-waxed to produce a deep, lustrous character, while the fine quality of the finish and wax will help to preserve the wood for centuries to come. The great advantage of the vertical file cabinet is that it utilizes space that often goes unused and at the same time saves more floor space than a lateral file cabinet, leaving you to enjoy a larger office. With four full file drawers, this file cabinet also offers plenty of storage space under lock and key, as all five drawers lock. Each drawer accommodates both legal- and letter-sized files and features high-grade metal rails. This high standard of quality is maintained from top to bottom, where lovely ogee bracket feet provide strong support (although other foot types can be chosen). The feet used in this file cabinet are quite thick and because of their somewhat arched design and knees, they are much stronger than straight feet, a discovery Queen Anne craftsmen made when perfecting the similarly jointed cabriole leg in the early 18th century.

English Classics Furniture Handmade English Walnut Credenza
Designed in a classic Georgian style, this beautiful burl walnut credenza offers a glamorous combination of period design and modern functionality. A variety of drawers and a central cabinet contain plenty of storage, while the quality construction ensures that this piece will last for many years to come. In total, this credenza contains five standard drawers, two file drawers that fit legal-sized and letter-sized files (just drop in the appropriate sized hanging file system from any office supply store), and a central two-door cabinet. All of these individual compartments lock with a set of antique style skeleton keys. Such a piece can store a great many items and files as a modern storage solution. As beautiful as it is functional, this burl walnut credenza has been hand-crafted with the utmost faith to traditional design. The wood has been treated to an elaborate finishing process, beginning with distressing the surfaces and staining them. Next, several coats of lacquer were applied, followed by a thorough polish of hand-rubbed paste wax. This last step protects the wood while it also makes it look even more beautiful. Finally, the top and drawers are adorned with walnut cross banding to accent the stunning burl walnut, while the drawers all feature traditional solid brass swan neck pulls–a favorite in Georgian and Victorian period furniture. The third-generation cabinetmaker who crafted this credenza did not just stop at beauty and functionality. It is also an extremely well-made, sturdy, and durable piece. The underlying structure is made of thick, hard wood, while the hand-cut dovetailed joints on the drawers ensure the best strength possible. The locks and hardware have all been forged in England, just as they have been for centuries, so they are top-grade hardware just like the carefully selected burl walnut veneers. • English Classics Furniture Burl Elm Revolving Bookcase with Fan Inlay
    english-classics.net
English Classics Furniture Burl Elm Revolving Bookcase with Fan Inlay
The first thing that I notice about this hand crafted antique style elm revolving bookcase is the lovely fan inlay to the top. Combined with the marvelous elm wood and hand finish this revolving bookcase will make an attractive addition to any home or office for many years to come. A fine burled elm is used on the top of this revolving bookcase. The furniture maker has treated the wood to an elaborate hand finishing process leaving a gorgeous finish that looks like it has been around for many, many years. The corners of the top are canted (cut) so there are no sharp edges to catch on when the bookcase is turned or when you pass by it. The canted corners also give the revolving bookcase a more elegant feel than a simple square top would. The fan inlay is a traditional Georgian satinwood fan inlay that gives the bookcase a more traditional and elegant feel. Details like these are what make this piece a high quality, heirloom piece. This revolving bookcase was recently hand crafted in England by a third generation furniture maker. His care and attention to detail have made this a very sturdy piece of furniture. The plinth base sits firmly on the floor while everything above it rotates easily. A thick center column holds the weight of the shelves and decorative slats run up the left side of each of the four bookcase sides. Each slat is held firmly with three antiqued brass brads. This revolving bookcase is made to hold heavy books and can even support a heavy lamp as well. Each of the shelf areas on the bookcase (eight in total) measure 9.25″ wide x 6.5″ deep. The top shelves are 13.5″ tall and the bottoms are 12.5″ tall.
  • English Classics Furniture Mahogany TV Cabinet

English Classics Furniture Mahogany TV Cabinet
Disguised as a chest of drawers, this mahogany TV cabinet would be perfect for any bedroom, living room, or den to house your entertainment electronics. This is a new piece that was recently hand crafted in England. It boasts a fine flame mahogany wood that has been accented with satinwood inlays around the top and faux drawer fronts. Both cabinet doors swing around to lay almost flat (they stick out about 4″ on either side in the back) to the sides of the TV cabinet. When closed, the doors lock and one key is included. Solid brass hardware on the doors add depth to the piece. The entire cabinet sits on a sturdy plinth base and is made to hold substantial weight if necessary. The interior is composed of a large, main area and two small peripheral compartments. The large area has interior measurements of 39.75″ wide x 23″ deep x 32″ tall. Each small compartment measures 19.5″ wide x 23″ deep x 3″ tall. There are wire/ventilation holes in each section. While a finely made piece of furniture, there is a defect to the top which has caused us to lower the price on this item. During its creation there was some kind of issue with the pressing of the flame mahogany veneer to the top which has caused two sections to have crackles. These are not immediately obvious and were hard to photograph. They are most visible in the glare of overhead lighting. We feel they add some character to a beautiful piece of furniture.

The drawers slide in and out on metal rails, so no matter how many heavy files you put in, the drawers will still work easily. The use of the burled walnut wood is a great choice. While excellent for use next to a bed, they would also function perfectly as matching end tables by a sofa or chairs. These brand new bedside chests are of the utmost quality. The third generation furniture maker in England that built them uses time honored techniques to create heirloom quality pieces of furniture. The bell-flower inlays are also known as “swag” inlays or garland inlays. Each of the tops is inlaid with a satinwood fan inlay, black line decal, and lighter mahogany band around the outside. The hand crafting process includes a seven stage hand rubbed finish, just like antique furniture that was built several hundred years ago. All of these details combine to make this pair of nightstands a stunning set. You will notice that all of the drawers are joined with dovetailed (another term for mortise and tenon) joints. These joints make the drawers as strong as possible. It is important that drawers be dovetailed since they will receive the most use and abuse on a functional piece of furniture. This type of construction will help the piece to last for lifetimes! The feet used are a sturdy bracket foot which not provide superior stability to the nightstands, but also fit in with the Georgian style look of the chests. Included in the pictures is a close up of one of the tops that has a slight mark in it. This mark is almost impossible to see unless the light is just right, but we wanted to show it anyways. The picture makes it look much more prevalent than it is.

This burl walnut file cabinet was recently hand-crafted in England by an Old World style cabinetmaker. Having plied his family trade all of his life–the third generation to do so–he has perfected an elaborate finishing process that enriches and protects the natural beauty of the wood. The burl walnut has been hand-distressed using iron and stones to lend it a genuine character. It was then stained, given several coats of finish, and finally hand-rubbed with several coats of wax, which can be reapplied twice a year for repair and maintenance. The solid brass escutcheons and swan neck pulls were crafted by another English craftsman for application in fine furniture–the same way that file cabinets like this have been made for generations. The brass hardware contrasts beautifully with the burl walnut, forming a lovely complement to the wood, with its complex grain and lustrous finish. As a final and crowning adornment, thick, brown cowhide leather has been inlaid into the top and given an embossed border traced on the outside by gold tooling. • English Classics Furniture Georgian Style Mahogany Pair of Bedside Chests
    english-classics.net
English Classics Furniture Georgian Style Mahogany Pair of Bedside Chests
Made at the perfect height, this pair of bedside chests was recently crafted in England of the finest cathedral mahogany. This pair is not only beautiful, but very functional as well. The furniture maker who made these chests in England has decades of furniture making experience which shows in the quality and artistry of his work. He has used age old techniques to craft this beautiful pair of bedside chests. Each nightstand has three drawers. Each of the three drawers is constructed with dovetailed joints for superior strength and durability when compared to other joining techniques. Beyond that, he has fitted each drawer with a pair of solid brass swan neck drop pulls. These antiqued brass pulls contrast the cathedral mahogany of the pair of bedside chests. Also offsetting the mahogany grain are the satinwood string inlays on each drawer front and each chest top. These are real inlays, expertly hammered into the mahogany. In contrast to the better known flame mahogany which has a flaring grain, cathedral mahogany has a straighter, more uniform grain. This gives the wood a “neater” look and allows the inlays used with it to really pop out visually. This pair of bedside chests benefits from both the cathedral mahogany and the subtle use of satinwood inlays to give the pair a clean, crisp look. This pair of bedside chests has many characteristics of the Georgian style furniture period. The slightly canted corners, pulls, and bracket feet are the most noteworthy. Because these nightstands are brand new, they function perfectly. The drawers slide in and out very easily and the chests do not have the odor that can accompany older chests. The maker also took the time to cant the front corners of the tops, which minimizes the sharp edges that you can potentially bump into. Overall this pair of bedside chests is a stunning find that could function very well as nightstands or complimenting side tables.
