Gubi - Pedrera table lamp PD1
The Pedrera lamp originated in the middle of the 1950s. At that time it was innovative in its expression and material, and today it is a classic. The through thought and sophisticated design didn’t lose its charm along the years. Pedrera suits perfectly in every living area and it offers the furnishing a smooth and pleasant atmosphere. The small Pedrera table lamp PD1 finds a wonderful place on tables, sideboards and shelves. There it stays at the background and looks discretely like a sculpture with its distinctive expression. When the light is turned on the inner screen spreads a soft and pleasant shine forming a fascinating sample with the outer screen. The Spanish architect Barba Corsini designed the lamp in the year 1953. He was asked to design attic apartments in Gaudis famous living building "La Pedrera” in Barcelona by the real estate company that leads the building. For the Pedrera building, Barca Corini consequently designed thirteen individual apartments that conserved the numbers 1 to 14 because of superstition reasons. Moreover he designed a lamp and furniture series that also contain the Pedrera lamps for these flats. The inspiration for the lamp series from Barba Corsini came from the slim, cylindrical chimneys from the Pedrera building. The Pedrera table lamp that is manufactured by the Danish company Gubi today received his name thanks to its origin.

    Gubi Grossman Cobra Floor Lamp
The Grossman Cobra Floor Lamp was designed in 1950 by Greta Grossman. It is the taller sibling of the Good Design Award winning Gubi Grossman Cobra Table Lamp. Both were reissued in 2011. They were the brain-child of this hugely talented pioneering female designer, who left her native Stockholm in 1933 to emigrate to the States, where she lived in Los Angeles with her jazz musician husband. Grossman brought with her many European influences – particularly the Bauhaus movement – and over her 42 years as a designer played an important part in the shaping of Californian Modernism. Grossman’s designs are unique and iconic, and many decades ahead of their time – yet they are practical and functional too. It is for this reason that Gubi have re-launched her work – this almost forgotten female designer is highly deserving of a comeback. The Cobra takes its name from the shape of its powder painted aluminium shade which rotates through 360 degrees. A flexible, move-in-any-direction tubular arm connects it via a rigid pole to a solid cast iron ballast covered by an aluminium plate. There is an in-line on/off switch on the 2 metre long fabric cord. Height: 118 cm. Reach: 67 cm. Diameter (shade): 29 cm. Bulb: 1 x E14 40W. Chose from Anthracite grey, Jet-black, Blue-grey or Vintage red. The Cobra is a strong, stable and stylish floor lamp that works well in both Modernist and Retro interiors. Although only recently re-released, it has a product familiarity largely attributable to its classic bio-mimetic cobra-shaped shade (although its smaller sibling has appeared in movies and Marvel comics). Geographically rooted in Denmark, Gubi are eclectic and intercontinental and blur the lines between past, present and future. They are fuelled by overlooked designs from the past and see themselves as treasure seekers.

Classic-simple in an office or colourful in a children’s room or in the kitchen – the Semi pendant lamp from Gubi fits in every coherence with its curved design. It also has an impressive effect in a group. The Semi pendant lamp has been a reaction to the trend of comfort in Danish design in the 1960es. The designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Throup answered with contraire clear lines and geometric forms with their lamp. The Semi lamp, which is produced by the Danish company Gubi, became world famous for the swung enameled metal. Its form is based on a fourth-sphere. The shade of the lamp is composed of two fourth-spheres – which is why it has the name "Semi”. Not for nothing the designers used geometric forms, such as spheres, triangles and squares as greatest inspiration source. Initially the pendant lamp Semi has been designed for an industrial competition at the Danish architecture school in 1968. Both designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup won the competition for the unique design of their lamp. The stylish Semi pendant soon became a design classic afterwards. It already interacted perfectly with the organic furniture of Verner Panton and Eero Saarinen in that time, and it still suits public rooms without a doubt. The Semi pendant lamp is available in three different sizes and colours.

In 1955 Barba Corsini renovated the loft space within Antonio Gaudi's famous building "La Pedrera" in Barcelona, transforming it from a simple laundry room and storage area into 13 modern duplex apartments. Corsini used a series of parabolic arcs to create individual rooms and give an illusion of space and height. To reinforce the modernist style of the rooms, Corsini decorated the apartments with furniture and lighting that he designed himself, including the perforated metal lighting line know as the Pedrera series. The PD-1 H2O lamp is perfect beside the bed or put it on a credenza or side-table near the couch. Illuminates with a magical glow. Accepts 1 x max 42watt E26 Halogen bulb (not included).

Greta Magnusson Grossman received the Good Design-Award for her exceptional Cobra-designs in the fifties of the past century. The design of the Cobra floor lamp GM3 didn’t lose any of its individual charm along the decades. The design became a real classic since the 1950s: thought and worked, the Cobra table lamp remained the same until today. The neck of the lamp can be directed to every side, therefore also the name "Cobra” for the awarded lamp. Whether as reading lamp near a sofa, in corners or as eye-catcher in a room: The Cobra floor lamp GM3 suits in everywhere. Greta Grossman has been inspired by Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier for her works. But she still followed her own style and embossed the American Mid-Century-Design with European influences. Grossman therefore received numerous awards, not for nothing the lamp by Greta Grossman has proven itself along the decades. The Danish company Gubi produces the Cobra floor lamp GM3 after original designs by Greta Magnusson Grossman. Besides the table lamp in different colours (warm grey, vintage red, blue grey and jet black), the Cobra lamp is also available as smaller table lamp.

    Gubi - Semi Pendant Lamp

    Gubi - Turbo Pendant Lamp
Louis Weisdorf already designed the Turbo pendant lamp in 1965. It shows design as it should be: A simple form and still with complex structures for weightlessness and strength make up the Turbo. The geometric shapes seem to be moving and do therefore remind us of the turbines of a turbo charger. Which is the reason for the name of the Gubi pendant lamp: twelve identic aluminium spirals form the iconic exterior. Weisdorf was also inspired by Japanese rice paper lamps that give the shapely weightlessness to the Turbo. The interlaced lamellae make up a light sculpture, which shield the illuminant and only free indirect light through the openings. That’s how the Gubi Turbo pendant lamp serves as illuminant for living rooms and bedrooms with its different light facets. Gubi produces the Turbo pendant lamp by Louis Weisdorf in two sizes (diameter 36 cm and 62 cm).

The handy and classic BL7 Bauhaus lamp by Gubi is the most reduced and most compact of the BL wall lamps but not any less functional. Fixed to the wall the characteristic shade of the lamp sticks out from the wall on a short arm. The lamp shade can be brought into almost any position and therefore the lamp is able to light any spot in its reach. The functional lamp is also suitable as a reading lamp, working place lamp, bathroom lamp or for lighting a certain part of a room. The simple design of the lamp fits every room and it looks elegant both in the background and as the centre of an ensemble. The design of the BL7 is even further reduced compared to other lamps of the BL series. However, its belonging to the family of Bauhaus lamps is still clearly visible. When Robert Dudley Best designed the lamps of the BL series in the 1930s they were revolutionary simple and of unusually clear and functional forms. They are still regarded as examples of classic Bauhaus design. This has been enforced by the British designers close contacts to Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, which were the centres of the Bauhaus movement back then. Even the British premier Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp standing on his desk in Whitehall and many architects and designers made some great designs under its light. The wall lamp BL7 by Gubi is lso available in further colours.

"Many architects and furniture designers of the Bauhaus era were intent on providing well-designed homes and impeccably manufactured furnishings for the ""common man"". in 1955, Barba Corsini, a leading functionalist architect, realised his contemporary vision through his renovation of the loft space and the furnishings he custom designed for ""La Pedrera"". The Pedrera lamp originated in the middle of the 1950s. At that time it was innovative in its expression and material, and today it is a classic. The through thought and sophisticated design didn’t lose its charm along the years. The Pedrera floor lamp PD2 suits wonderful in the modern home and offers a smooth and pleasant atmosphere to the furnishing despite its dimensions. The floor lamp PD2 suits perfectly besides a sofa, in empty corners or simply free in a room. There it doesn’t stand in the foreground, but discretely looking like a sculpture with the distinctive expression.

The Danish company Gubi produces the Cobra table lamp GM2 after original designs by Greta Magnusson Grossman. Gubi - Bestlite BL2 table lamp
The BL2 by Bestlite is the more compact one of the two table lamps by the designer Robert Dudley Best. Unlike the table lamp BL1 by Bestlite the BL2 cannot be adjusted in height but it’s not less handy. Instead, the lamp seems more simple, round and self-contained than the BL1 and furthermore it provides the highest functionality. At the time when the table lamp BL2 was designed by Robert Dudley Best as part of the BL series it was revolutionary simple, clearly and functionally designed. The visual similarities of the BL lamps are nonetheless enough to regard them as examples of classic Bauhaus design. This is being enforced by the close contacts that the British designer had to Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, the centres of the Bauhaus movement back then. Especially as a working place light the BL2 satisfies as it’s rotatable and traversable and therefore able to light every corner optimally. The lamp shade can be brought in any position. A heavy floor plate ensures a secure and firm stand. The BL2 table light has been designed in the 1930s. It gained some popularity as the British premier Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp standing on his desk in Whitehall. Many architects and designers worked on some great designs under its light. The BL2 table light by Guby is also available in further colours.

The belonging of the BL9 L to the family of Bauhaus lamps is clearly visible due to the functional and characteristic design. Gubi presents another model of the famous Robert Dudley Best lamp. The classic and functionalistic design of the BL-series has been passed to a pendant lamp here, fulfilling the highest demands to form and function. The BL9 pendant lamp does perfectly suit in every room and acts either elegant in the background or as direct eye-catcher in the middle of the room. The simple design of the BL lamps has been adapted to the demands of a pendant lamp at the BL9. This means that the design is even more reduced but not less classic and elegant. When Robert Dudley Best designed the BL series in the 1930es, they were revolutionary simple and had a clear and uncommon functional shape. With it they are still an example for the classic Bauhaus design. This has been reinforced by the tight contact of Robert Dudley Best with Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, the centers of the Bauhaus-lamps movement. Even the twice British Prime Minister Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp on his desk in Whitehall, and many architects and designers worked huge designs under the BL’s light.
