Design Marcel Wanders, 2011. Air-molded polycarbonate, wicker back. Made in Italy by Magis. A cyborg is an organism that has both artificial and natural systems. The term was coined in 1960 by Manfred Clynes. In 1965, D.S. Halacy's Evolution of the Superman featured an introduction which spoke of a 'bridge...between mind and matter.' Fictional cyborgs are portrayed as a synthesis of organic and synthetic parts. Often their presence calls into question the difference between humans and machines as concerned with morality, free will, and empathy. The friction we feel between the natural and the artificial world is in fact a misconception; as there is no artificial world, there is only a natural world under the influence of its very own nature. Magis Design Magis - Pila Chair
The brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec designed Pila for Magis in 2012. The filigree and weightless form of the chair is a wonderful contrast to the natural wooden material it is made of (first production 2013). Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec especially thought of minimalistic elegance when they designed their Pila chair: A design as elegant as possible with as little material as possible. That’s the reason why the Magis Pila chair isn’t only very weightless, but also the design gives the impression of being floating. The ash plywood made seat is carried by four filigree feet out of massive oak wood. The backrest, also consisting of plywood, ends up in the chair’s feet. A filigree aluminium construction, which is hidden under the seat, ensures stability. Pila is available in different editions in natural or stained ash wood.

Magis Design Magis - Raviolo Lounger
Raviolo is a low lounger by Ron Arad and Magis. As well as Voido, Raviolo had the goal of creating a plastic product in a rotation procedure that convinces with an unusual shape and fulfills the highest demands. Ron Arad and Magis selected a shape that is based on a wound plastic band for Raviolo. The idea of the design has long remained in Ron Arad’s head and now it was perfectly adapted to the rotational procedure. The finished Raviolo lounger integrates the characteristics of the manufacturing process in its design and also displays the rotation process at the external, wound texture. Seat and backspace of the Raviolo are flat. The apparent and haptic break as well as the interlaced shape of the lounger create a bloated appearance that reminded Ron Arad of filled pasta. Therefore he named his lounger Raviolo. Raviolo consists of polyethylene and is adapted to indoor and outdoor use.

Design Thomas Heatherwick, 2010. Rotational molded polyethylene or polycarbonate. Made by Magis. Spun came out of research into the geometric simplification of a familiar object type. Could a completely rotationally symmetrical form make a comfortable chair? The result is not immediately apparent as a chair and when upright looks more like a sculptural vessel. When lent on its side however, Spun forms a comfortable and functional chair that the sitter can rock from side to side, or even spin around in a complete circle. So if you've never been one for sitting still, the Spun chair is for you. Rock or spin your way to creativity or relaxation, indoors or out. Bright and whimsical, it's a chair that defies definition. 36" w | 36" d | 26" h. * transparent versions are recommended for indoor use only.
