Matthew Hilton Bilsby Armchair in Leather
Since graduating from Kingston Polytechnic in 1979, Matthew Hilton has created a number of innovative furniture collections, often drawing inspiration from unusual places. The idea for the Bilsby Sofa Collection (2014) came from a visit to The Homewood, a modern house designed by Patrick Gwynne and built by Leslie Bilsby in the English countryside. Combining the clean lines of Gwynne’s architecture with state-of-the-art technologies from today, Bilsby is the perfect blend of aesthetics, comfort and support. The ultra-thin steel deck offers exceptional stability while the custom combination of foam and down provides a comfortable sit with a tailored look. Designed with the urban dweller in mind, the arms and backs detach for easy delivery through narrow hallways and staircases. Made in Italy.

Matthew Hilton for SCP Oscar Sofa
Made in the UK using sustainable materials, Matthew Hilton's Oscar seating strikes a pleasing balance between modernity and tradition, large in size yet light in appearance. This sofa is made from a European hardwood frame, jute webbing and hessian straps, and then covered with a mix of materials that include natural fibers, animal hair, and wool. The Oscar features two large feather cushions that are notable for their depth, the sofa's back has a line of sewn in pulls, lending the sofa the appearance of a buttoned back, without the actual buttons. The feet are made from walnut stained beech, with the front two being turned versions. By contrasting long straight lines with delicate natural curves, Hilton has created a piece that is both reserved and full of humility. The Oscar is a piece perfect for those who like their modernity laced with a little familiarity. The Oscar Sofa is featured here in Molly 170, Wool.
