Vitra Kast 1 Height Unit Low Storage
Design Maarten Van Severen, 2005. Stainless steel aluminum, MDF. Made in Germany by Vitra. A key theme in the oeuvre of Maarten Van Severen is storage furniture, be it shelves, cupboards or sideboards. The design for Kast, which Van Severen worked on during the last few months of his life, can be considered the quintessence of his exploration of the subject. Kast is a storage unit that is modular in structure. Supplemented by two simple wooden crates and a further basic module, a shelf/wall cupboard combination arises. Van Severen paid special attention to the color for the sliding doors, which not only emphasize Kast's elegant and yet seemingly classical proportions, but also give it a fresh and optimistic sense. Formal clarity and simplicity are distinguishing aesthetic features of Maarten Van Severen's designs. His work, handproduced in his workshop in Ghent Belgium, reflects his quest for perfection in form, detail and fabrication. Their appearance is restrained and elegant. Every element is structurally motivated and reduced to its essential form. Maarten works in a variety of different materials: aluminium and ply to bakelite and polyester. Sliding doors in pink, dark green, bronze-grey and bright white powder-coated sheet aluminum. Kast 1 height unit low storage is offered open on both sides with four sliding doors in pink, dark green, bronze-grey & bright white. Kast storage is available in three height options. 21.5" h | 96" L | 15.75" w.
