    Iittala - Leimu Lamp
Leimu, „flame" in German, spreads the reason of its name: warm and comfortable light for your living room. The unusual chalice shape of the lampshade surprises, already before the second exciting detail comes into effect. The concrete base makes up a contrast to the weightless, transparent lampshade – a design, which connects sensibility with strength. The designer Magnus Pettersen explained about it: ”The connection of concrete and glass is famous in architecture, but not always really attractive. I wanted to create a soft combination of both opposites in a lamp, which emphasized the interplay of warm and cold elements.” The born Norwegian is known for the combination of counterparts, since his style is also called "industrial luxury”. It wasn’t easy to make a harmonic interplay of socket and lampshade regarding technique. Finally, glass is filigree and concrete massive, making it difficult to ensure a flowing mixture. Thanks to Iittala’s experience, this problem wasn’t difficult to resolve, since Iittala represents competence in glass processing without comparison. Iittala - Lantern Lamp
Lantern, which became meanwhile a classic from Iittala, appears in a new light because now there is an electric version of the light object designed by Harri Koskinen. In this way the application area of Lantner is a good deal bigger: The light object can be placed in various surroundings, for example between shelvings or in public places. "A candle creates a relaxed atmosphere and is connected with a ritual: A few hours after lighting the candle, the darkness returns. Electricity offers more functionality because the Lantern can give more light without any time limit", argues Harri Koskinen. The form of the Lantern Lamp is iconic and sculpturesque - just like its classic role model. That is also the reason why the form just looks amazing with either candle light or electric light. Even if the Lantern doesnot fulfil its regular (lighting) purpose at the very moment, it will still fulfill the purpose of being a wonderful decorative design object due to its sculptural form.
