    Toikka Curlew By Iittala
iittala was the first company to commercialize glass birds, with over 400 birds being created during the past three decades. The success is based on the skills of famed Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka, a unique Nuutajärvi glass factory, and expert glass blowers. Each bird is mouth blown in a factory located in the 200 year old glass-making village of Nuutajärvi, Finland. The creation of just one bird demands the greatest of technical talents and artistic insight from the glass blowers - as each bird is unique with its own distinctive color variations. Toikka's birds are highly sought after as gifts and cherished as collector's pieces. Each bird is signed "O. Toikka Nuutajärvi" as proof of authenticity.

Alfredo Häberli, who grew up in Buenos Aires and lives in Zurich, is a designed by heart. This is how he designed a special Christmas pattern in red tones for Iittala. The pattern was printed on Geschirrtücher , paper napkins and other products. Since the pattern of the Rondello paper napkin is simple and graphical, it doesn’t only suit the Christmas season. During the rest of the year it will dry everything, especially because the combination of linen and cotton greatly suctions humidity. Iittala lives the Mix & Match principle, which represents the free combinability of all the Iittala products. The Rondello towels are wonderfully combinable with many other products of the collection of the Finnish company, but as well with those of other manufacturers. For example Teema and Taika are wonderful partners for the Rondello series by Alfredo Häberli.

    Iittala - Aalto Lantern
While many European designers glamourised the revolution of the maschines, their Scandinavian collegues turned towards nature. Alvar Aalto was one of the trendsetters with his organic shapes, like the Savoy Vase displays: His vase is world-famous. The same natural shapes emerge in his works: In the wave-shaped walls of the Finish pavillon, on the New Yorker World Trade Fair 1939, in the architecture of the Dusseldorf Schauspielhaus, in loungers, Spanish walls and tea trolleys. The offered lanterns of the Aalto-Series have the same tradition of the world famous vase. Aalto was convinced that design should be human in its details. The design of the lanterns leans against the vases and offers the ideal amedment to the other products of iittala. The Aalto-lanterns are available in different colours.

It is said that in 1973, while Oiva Toikka was in his study in Nuutajarvi Finland, a bird flew onto his window ledge. It was a rare bird, one he had not seen before in these parts and he began to sculpture it's image in glass. The bird amazingly came back day after day. Professor Toikka continued on to finish it's image in glass. The creation of the bird demanded great technical and artistic insight. He finished his work and just as strange as that particular bird being there, the bird disappeared and did not return. Professor Toikka has continued since then creating his birds, at least one a year since 1973. His birds are hand made and each one is unique featuring its own distinctive colour vatiations. His pieces are highly sought after as gifts and collector's pieces. Each bird is personally signed as proof of authenticity. The little town of Nuutajarvi has been a glass making village for over two hundred years.
