Iittala - Light up your life
For relaxing moments. The Aalto bowl out of stainless steel with one clear and one grey Kivi lantern and one rain blue Kastehelmi lantern for perfectly atmospheric candlelight. Kivi mood lights – Oiva Toikka 1964 The coloured pieces of light are the result of much experience regarding the processing of glass. The colours and the thicknesses of the thoroughly dyed glasses seem to make the flames shine brighter. Kivi is a real iittala classic which makes the experience of the manufacturer clearly observable. Kastehelmi mood lights – Oiva Toikka 1964 The name Kastehelmi (natural drop in Finnish) refers to the air bubbles inside of the pressed glass. The natural drops, inspired by Finnish nature, shine like a thread with pearls in the morning sun. The votive candle inside of the lantern spreads shadows through the glass, for a beautiful light effect. Alvar Aalto bowl – Alvar Aalto 1936 The basic design of this bowl comes from Alvar Aalto. His famous vase from 1936 is a real style icon of modern design. The flowing, organic form was inspired by the bizarre map of Finland. As if one looked at a sea or a lake from above. That was the source of inspiration for this set. Since it is a real small sea, with mysterious lights swimming inside of it.

    Iittala - Taika Dishtowels
The Taika dishcloths by Iittala lean on decorative patterns of the Taika collection and give them new, softer forms. New animals fill the magic character of the collection from Iittala. The Taika series is popular since it was presented in 2007. That’s the reason why Iittala expanded the whole collection with some pieces in 2014, among them the Taika dishcloths. The fabrics of the Taika collection are made of the finest Merino wool, which doesn’t only charm the eyes, but also the rest of the body. And really, Taika is different: When I was a boy, I used to watch the small mole from the Czech drawer Zdeněk Miler and many other east European and Russian animation films. I still like the hand-drawn style of those animations , explained the designer Haapamiemi. That hand-drawn style is obviously in the pattern of the Taika series. Taika adds completely new facets to the existing Iittala assortment, but still respecting the famous Mix & Match principle of Iittala, which represents the possibility of combining all the Iittala products with each other.

Iittala - Aalto Vase Savoy - height: 120 mm
Aalto vase – totally natural. Whereas many European designers exalted the revolution of the machines, Scandinavian artists turned to nature. Alvar Aalto was one of the trend-setters with his Savoy vase including the typical natural Aalto forms – waves – that also appeared in the shape of the walls of the Finnish pavilion at the World Exhibition in New York in 1939, in the architecture of the Schauspielhaus in Duesseldorf etc. At iittala’s request, Alvar Aalto created the Aalto vase in different shapes, sizes and colours for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937. Alvar Aalto was the son of a cartographer – maybe the shapes of the vase are based on Finnish landscapes and lakes. The timeless Aalto vase ranks among the most famous glass objects all over the world; it is a synonym for Finnish glass art and the manufacturer Iittala. The Savoy vase is currently being exhibited in the most important design museums.

Constant simplicity. The Kartio glass series was created by Kaj Franck for the Finnish design manufacturer Iittala in 1958 and impresses by its constant simplicity. ”Creating the perfect glass, starts with the hands that is going to hold it. Ask yourself what a glass the hand might want to hold.” Attempts have been made to copy Franck by applying his rational geometry to new designs. These attempts have failed, because they haven’t taken into account the living spirit and wisdom, required to give thought to simple things. Complexity is rarely wise, yet it takes bravery and spirit to be simple. Elegant yet durable enough for everyday use, the Kartio range features glasses, carafes and bowls, all of which are available in several colours as well as in clear glass. Other colours are available.

    Iittala - Kastehelmi Votive
The originally 1964 presented Kastehelmi Votives by Iittala are meanwhile legendary. While they were a revolutionary new product in glass manufactures during that time, they became real classics by now. The Kastehelmi Votives by Iittala unify two elements in one: Water and fire. The word “Kastehelmi” means dewdrop in Finnish. The hot flame and the cool dewdrop make up wonderful reflections that come out of this ambience light. This is how the Kastehelmi Votives soon became one of the most successful series of Iittala until the production was stopped in 1988. Oiva Toikka tried to find a method of hiding seams in a pressed glass in the 60s. By this means is how he had the idea of placing small glass-drops in the seams. His experiment developed to a completely new design that has been reedited now by Iittala. The Kastehelmi Votives by Oiva Toikka are available in seven evocatively colours.
