    Toikka Uhuu Owl By Iittala
iittala was the first company to commercialize glass birds, with over 400 birds being created during the past three decades. The success is based on the skills of famed Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka, a unique Nuutajärvi glass factory, and expert glass blowers. Each bird is mouth blown in a factory located in the 200 year old glass-making village of Nuutajärvi, Finland. The creation of just one bird demands the greatest of technical talents and artistic insight from the glass blowers - as each bird is unique with its own distinctive color variations. Toikka's birds are highly sought after as gifts and cherished as collector's pieces. Each bird is signed "O. Toikka Nuutajärvi" as proof of authenticity.

    Iittala - Sarjaton Bowl 0.68 l
As modern interpretation of the Finnish tradition, Iittala prideful presents the Sarjaton collection and clinks the glasses for a completely new thinking approach of tableware. The soft contours and the thrilling decors of this exciting collection allow facets-rich combinations for a contemporaneous eating-culture. Iittala brought six young Finnish designers out of fashion, product, graphic and digital design together to create a collection which wouldn’t only respect handicraft arts and eating rituals, bit also current values. Inspired by the Finnish way of life and a more conscious lifestyle, Sarjaton is the result of an innovative and common design process. Translated Sarjaton means “without series” – the different single pieces work together in combination with other collections, but also as single elements. They enable creative combinations according to individual demands, suit the most different events without problems and therewith redefine liberty of flexibility. Sarjaton is a complete but still reduced selection of 26 single elements, where touch plays a deciding role in design but aso in the usage of the materials. The single Sarjaton elements consist of glass, ceramic, ash wood and textiles, which can be combined with other products without any problems. Natural, damped tones such as pearl grey, white, ancient rose, earth brown and rust red form the base for the tactile surface with patterns and reliefs out of glossy as well as semi-matt glazing.

Constant simplicity. The Kartio glass series was created by Kaj Franck for the Finnish design manufacturer Iittala in 1958 and impresses by its constant simplicity. ”Creating the perfect glass, starts with the hands that is going to hold it. Ask yourself what a glass the hand might want to hold.” Attempts have been made to copy Franck by applying his rational geometry to new designs. These attempts have failed, because they haven’t taken into account the living spirit and wisdom, required to give thought to simple things. Complexity is rarely wise, yet it takes bravery and spirit to be simple. Iittala - Vakka Storage Box
The Vakka storage box by the designer couple Aalto + Aalto was inspired by the traditional plywood suitcases, which are very popular in the Baltic countries. An aesthetically appealing container, which is not a usual container was the result. The Vakka storage box is usable for several purposes; it can be used as a stackable piece of furniture or side table. The Iittala company produces Vakka in the LK-Taivute in the Finnish Lahti, where there is a long tradition of working with plywood. Plywood is the ideal material for Vakka, since it it is an original, soft material which convinces with its natural beauty. “Plywood is naturally beautiful – as well as stones at a beach. The shape was given by nature and it becomes even more beautiful with its age and with dents, seams and unevenness”, explained Klaus and Elina Aalto. Vakka was a natural challenge for the designer-duo, since the couple especially concentrated on functionality before. “We wanted to create something without its form as dominant factor. We tried to create traditionally practical and clever objects, whose appearance is directed by the function.” Vakka by Iittala is available in natural and white plywood editions as well as in two sizes.

    Iittala - Aalto Pot Guard
The Aalto Pot Guard is a kitchen helper that is successful by its design and functionality. The birch wood made lid leans on the design of Alvar Aalto: The waved lines are displayed in numerous Aalto designs and speak a clear, natural form-language. The Pot Guard works as “protector of cooking pots” according to its name. The wooden utensil is clipped between the pot and the lid and will with it enable that nothing inside of the pot comes out when it boils. The swung form thereby sits stabile so that the meal can remain alone a few minutes without any problems. Since iittala produces the Pot Guard out of birch wood, this one will not get to hot and can therewith be inserted or removed during the meal-preparation without burning fingers. After cooking, the Aalto Pot Guard can furthermore be used as pot coaster.
