notNeutral City On A Plate 12" Boston Dinner Plate
The original City Plate was a commemorative platter in honor of the 2006 AIA Convention, which was hosted by Los Angeles. The notNeutral parent firm, the Rios Clementi Hale Studios, had been working on a series of diagrams for their Civic Park project in downtown Los Angeles, looking at elements such as open space, circulation, and land use in the downtown core relative to the urban context of greater Los Angeles. A draft of the plan was up on one the common walls in the studio that notNeutral and the Rios Clementi Hale Studios share, and, typical of the cross-disciplinary interplay, notNeutral had the inspiration to translate the diagram onto a ceramic plate. The reductive graphics of the diagram and the recognizable pattern of LA streets and landmarks translated well to the medium. The response to the plate at the Convention was very enthusiastic ('Do my city!'), and the notNeutral expanded the idea into a series of plates. The result was a line of City Plates, released in series of four, which look at cities as a graphic language of line, color, and pattern as a means to investigate the cultural, economic, historical, and political impacts on city form. Each series has a particular conceptual framework that relates the four cities to each other, and the series as a whole operates within an ecological matrix organized by patterns of urban development: organic, baroque, gridded, and eclectic. The idea was that as the series evolved, the City Plates would form a network of relationships to each other that would allow people to design their own combination of plates (American cities, Coastal cities, Colonial cities, for example) that would allow interesting comparisons. This methodology led the notNeutral to some of the great cities of the world, and also to some less well-known cities that warrant attention. Each plate celebrates the beauty implicit in a city's unique form, a distinct pattern that has evolved over time as layers of history are inscribed into the urban landscape. One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded by Puritan colonists escaping religious persecution. It is a city established upon the spirit of independence, the same spirit which led the city's citizens to play a prominent role in the American Revolution. Many of the sites relating to this period are included along the Freedom Trail, delineated on the plate by a red dashed line. The city is also the site of pivotal firsts, including the country's first public school and subway system. Features: Plate. Material: Porcelain. Dishwasher and microwave safe. Three of the new cities were at one time the seat of government; one became its nation’s capital in 1960. All remain centers of economic power, cultural leaders, and symbols of their country’s national identity. New York - pop 8.2 million. Capital of the U.S. until 1790, New York long ago cemented its reputation as the ‘Capital of the World’. Its huge global influence on finance, trade, politics, and culture has been felt for more than a century, and it is seen around the world as the symbol of the American Dream. It is the most densely populated city on the globe. This fact alone gives New York its absolutely unique urban form. New York was first settled in Lower Manhattan, which accounts for the Old World European layout of downtown (in white). The entire island and parts of Brooklyn are dotted with historic landmarks and civic buildings (in red), including the United Nations building, Grand Central, Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden and the World Trade Center Memorial. These porcelain plates measure 12” across, with each city’s downtown core printed on a black background. Key buildings are represented with persimmon icons, while rivers and public spaces are shown in blue and green. Each plate is boxed and includes a key to the buildings and spaces included on the plate. 12" diameter. Dishwasher safe. Boxed with Printed Key.

notNeutral Garden Plate - Central Park: Reservoir
The Garden Plate collection features notable urban parks and gardens from around the world. While the color palette and graphic language coordinate with our existing City Plate collection (so you can intermix), the Garden Plates focus on the contrast between the organic elements of the highlighted park and the surrounding urban context. The first series showcases New York City's Central Park, the first large-scale (843 acres) public space in the United States, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1858. Each of the four plates highlights a different segment of the Park: the Sheep Meadow, the Great Lawn, the Reservoir, and the North Meadow. Each plate articulates the park's intricate network of roads and bridle paths, trees, and bodies of water to convey the landscape design and to trigger memories of places visitors may have strolled, ridden bikes, played softball, or picnicked. Garden Plate – Central Park: Reservoir. Reservoir – The largest body of water in Central Park, the 106-acre Reservoir is surrounded by a 1.58 mile running track, making it one of the city’s most popular jogging spots. While the Reservoir is the most dominant feature of this section of the Park, the surrounding North Meadow ball fields and Tennis Center courts are busy with athletic activity. On the eastern border of the park is the sophisticated Carnegie Hill neighborhood, punctuated by some of the world's greatest museums, including the Guggenheim Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. 12" diameter. Dishwasher safe. Boxed with Printed Key.

Vibrant, non-slip, laminated serving trays in 2 colors. When our parent firm, Rios Clementi Hale Studios, participated in a Paper Yacht Challenge sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles, there was no shortage of great designs swirling about the office. None captured our imagination quite so much as a multicolored geodesic-dome-shaped boat. The team created a whimsically colored, multifaceted orb that caught the wind and everyone’s attention as it floated brightly across the surface of the water. We were also enthralled with the elegant tonal variations in the orb's repeating pattern of triangles and diamonds. We laid the pattern flat and laminated it onto the surface of serving trays. Available in Fuchsia and Blue. 17" round. Laminated Paper and Melamine, Non-Slip Surface. Hand Wash. BPA free. Made in Turkey.

notNeutral Eccentric Area Rug - Blue / Purple
The circles on these rugs are not concentric, but eccentric! This striking, overlapping rug design originated as a 9,000 square foot custom rug for a grand hall. The original rug was intended to represent an embracing welcome to the community who gathered in the space, with the nesting circles in the pattern referencing traditional symbolism for the cycle of life and eternity. The rug design was also conceived of as a metaphor for a basket. The banding and radiating linear elements evoke the weave of a basket, which, similar to a community center, relies on interwoven individual members for strength and is a vessel for holding belongings together. Reinterpreted with warm and vibrant colors, and made available to you in 2 generous sizes, our Eccentric rugs will create a convivial centerpiece for any room in your home. 100% wool, hand tufted. GoodWeave certified. Four. Color options: Dark Sable Green, Sable Orange, Red. Blue, Purple. Recycled cotton backing. Eco-friendly AZO free dyes

    notNeutral Note Cards - Eccentric
The circles on these cards are not concentric, but eccentric! The initial inspiration for this pattern was drawn from traditional symbolism of circular forms representing the cycle of life and eternity. We were also attracted to concentric and repetitive patterns found in nature like growth rings and water ripples. Ultimately, as is our inclination, we were most intrigued by the irregularities in the pattern, the coincidences and overlaps that occur when there is a shift in the norm. These vibrantly colored note cards will brighten your correspondence and keep your circle of friends close. Boxed set includes 8 A-2 size flat note cards (4 colorways, 2 of each) with 8 matching envelopes. Printed on FSC Certified 100% recycled content paper.
