Flos - AIM LED Cable + Plug
A design object as a pendant lamp: The AIM LED Cable + Plug by Flos , made by the design brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, questions two fundamental principles of the light design. The first principle is the geometric middle of the light point: Lamps are mostly hanged central in the middle of the room. For the AIM LED Cable + Plug this doesn’t matter anymore since the grounding is achieved through a long cable. For the second principle, both designers have to break with the assumption that the cable is a pure means to an end, and therfore has to be hidden: The AIM by Flos presents a cable forest with impetuous lines and aesthetic function. The head of the AIM LED Cable + Plug can be mounted at any desired height with a changing inclination – this absolute freedom allows unique combinations. The installations, which thereby emerge, remind us already more of an artwork than of a design! The direct, clear light of the Flos lamp is suitable for living rooms as well as to illuminate single objects. In the Cable + Plug version, the lamp by Flos offers also a plug, and therefore can be connected to a socket. As a result, not only completely new options in lighting beyond the classic pendant lamp arise, but the installation is also faster and more flexible, so that the AIM Cable + Plug can quickly change the rooms. The dimmer and on/off switch is placed on the cable. As AIM LED Pendant Lamp , the innovative lamp by Flos is also available as an alternative for the ceiling installation. Flos produces the AIM Cable + Plug out of polished aluminium, ABS and polycarbonate. Thanks to the dimmable LEDs, the AIM pendant lamp is energy-saving and can create different light moods in a room, while the 9 metre cable suits any different suspension variant.

Consequently it became popular under the name “the pregnant duck” and was considered an absolute design classic. The Georg Jensen Company revives the chic, initially silver designed piece now in stainless steel, together with other works from the “master of form”. And the pitcher does spectacularly underline this series, which is why the Henning Koppel objects advanced to become the embodiment of Scandinavian post-war design as New Look famous style with their mirror-flat polished surfaces and their asymmetrical lines. Who only thinks of something eatable by the word Baguette, will learn better with the eponymous piece of furniture by the design brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec. The baguette table is perfectly suitable as dining table – its name however, leads to a different direction: Its filigree form, and not its function. Baguette can have many meanings out of the French language: Besides a white bar of bread, Baguette can also be a rod, a whip, a tact rod, capping strips and many other slim things. The intention of the brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec was to design an aluminium table frame but to consume as little aluminium as possible for this – therefrom the graceful shape of the frame. The effect is not only its appearance, but much more a graphic feature, because it appears as if massive table boards of four smooth (eating-)bars were supporting it. Moreover converging feet in a triangle and the rectangular table top follow a strict, geometric shaping. The Italian company Magis produces the Baguette table in two sizes (table top length: 160 Cm or 205 cm). The table feet consist of aluminium, the traverse out of profile aluminium. The frames are available in glossy polished or white / black lacquered editions. This last one can also be used outdoors with the according table top. Also the materials the tables are made of are exclusive: From less expensive MDF board (white of black lacquered), over glass tops (white dyed through) up to noble table boards out of natural stone (quartzite or Italian slate), Magis offers suitable solutions for every interior.

    Officina Alessi - Trayscape
Trayscape is a tray for the kitchen and the living room. It was designed by the Chinese design studio Urbanus for the Italian manufacturer Alessi and belongs to the project “(Un)Forbidden City”. The name of the project reveals it all: Alessi goes China! And the truth is, Alessi presents a utile item with Asian design philosophy with the Trayscape tray. Trayscape looks like a table sculpture, empty, expecting something that is to come. A dark stone, modelled like a sea, which is surrounded by soft mountains, like a traditional Chinese garden. Turned inside out, to be used as tray, the reliefs of the landscape become the surfaces on the table – and the slightly arched, flat surface, which served as base before, becomes the place for tasty meals. Both opposite souls of “Trayscape” – the contemplative expectation of an empty object and the functionality of the tray – are only understandable separately; they exclude each other. Liu Xiaodu, Meng Yan, Wang Hui of the design studio Urbanis designed a tray, which connects Asian philosophy with everyday objects with their Trayscape they designed for the Officina Alessi collection. The tray is made out of melamine resin.

Its name is today not understandable literally and hearkens that the original used foam was so cheap, that a new cover of the furniture would not be payable, and that one could throw it away and buy a new sampler. With a design-classic like that, it is advised against this action. The armchair and the sofa with the originally intended flat plastic covers became popular, before they later used other fabrics and leather as cover. Throw Away is an armchair, available as 2- and as 3-seater-sofa and convinces through its absolute timeless design. Very clever: The Brain bookend from Jan Kurtz doesn’t only hold books, but it also fills our days with art. The Brain bookend from Jan Kurtz really emerged in an artistic process: The designer Betrand Jayr reinterpreted the hard material with an organic context. Brains and concrete are connected by their “grey substance” definition. And while our brain is helpful when we are thinking, books help us to find a thing to think about. Thoughts become objects Thoughts become objects with the Jan Kurtz Brain concrete bookend. And the more books there are between the brain halves, the more it will know – in a visual sense and in the real sense of the word. The best thing however, is to come: Both halves of the books stoppers are usable separately, which is the reason why the knowledge amount (books) can be organised on different ways between the brain halves.

    urbanature - high garden
Designer Jörg Brachmann challenged the problem of plants inside and outside of the house. The unusual garden keeps flowers at a height of 1,48, where you will be able to see them at eye-level. Urbanature is responsible for eye-catchers inside and outside of the house Green plants ensure freshness and comfort inside of the house, but they also cause some problems sometimes: Garden herbs and pot plants block the windows so that we aren’t really motivated to remove them for fresh air. Heaters at windows dry the soil in the plant pots so that one witted leave is followed by another one. And the summer sun will burn the dried leaves in the end. If all of it blocks our green thumbs, the high garden is a solution. Place it wherever you like in the room for the plants to be seen at eye-level all the time. It is a real eye-catcher – whether in the kitchen, the corridor or the office. The high garden also looks gorgeous outside: You won’t need to stoop to plant it, there will be no snails or rodents anymore. Instead, your plants are installed on the balcony, the terrace or in the garden as they deserve. Foscarini - Binic table lamp
Binic is a small table lamp with a vivid design and available in six different colours. The lamp from the Foscarini house was designed by the French designer Ionna Vautrin. Binic imparts empathy and it convinces with an independent character. As a gift idea or for the personal use Binic is affordable and versatile: A real “Take-Away” product or “Love at first sigh”, like the young designer Ionna Vautrin would say. Binic is small but full of strong personality. With its pleasant, poetic and a little caricature-looking form it attracts all attention irresistibly. Binic projects a soft light that acts like a private lighthouse: Angularly downwards. The light does not shine directly from the illuminant, but it is damped by a board. Binic possesses an aluminium foot and a polycarbonate shade. The upper round volume with a glossy surface and a satined cone base seems to be gravity resistant. Despite this, Binic is completely stable because the weight difference is only a visual effect. The designer Ionna Vautrin designed a range of six colours to offer a wider dimension to the lamp like this. White, green, red, orange, petrol, grey: A wide colour tone range for a design product, to be integrated in every furnishing style but overall, this was made to suit every personality that chose Binic. Ionna Vautrin was inspired by her origin region, the Bretagne, its sea and her sea travelling for Binic. The main inspiration for the small lamp was given by the wind bags from the boats. The word “Binic” itself is the designation for a lighthouse at the coast in the Bretagne.

To forge iron is one of the most ancient production techniques. The designer brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec concentrated on this original technique of metal processing and designed different models, whose appearance is dominated by the industrial material. The results are frames with nine geometrical shapes. The rough and imperfect appearance of iron adds an individual appearance to the furniture of the Officina Collection. The base of the console table is made of zinc-plated forge iron and it is ornamented by different table tops made of slate or walnut. The material mix emerging out of the contrast of table top and frame is the reason why the Officina console by Magis is especially attractive. Menu Design Menu - Norm Steel Wall Clock
Norm Steel Clock by Menu is a light and simplistic clock with steel hands - designed by the Copenhagen-based simplicity lovers at Norm Architects. Minimalism is not a modern style. Minimalism has been the norm in many cultures all over the globe since the beginning of civilization. People have strived continually for material poverty as a way to inner luxury. Reduction and perfection have been the main goal for both craftsmen and inventors – because avoiding the irrelevant meant emphasising the important. Norm Architects aim for geometrical purity, a simple naturalness and a reduced authenticity for a sense of calm and repose – which is clearly seen in the Steel Wall Clock, designed by the Danish manufacturer Menu. The powder coated steel looks matt and the soft colours with slightly contrasting pointers remain decently in the visual background. These qualities make the Menu Steel Wall Clock look timeless: It is a master example for the soft minimalism followed by Norm.

A whale and a bubble in a space that really emphasize the motive. There is a deep message behind what seems simple on the first sight, on the Whale Reprise poster from paper Collective. Greg Eason has the rare quality of letting simple drawn images seem highly complex and of offering them impressively roomy depth. The British artist explains about his poster Whale Reprise: ”I re-adopted the whale pattern from a picture I already drew in 2011. That’s the reason for the name Reprise.” The designer laid his whale on a grey background and added a bubble, which looks like a human head and which softly breaks the grey colour of the image with its delicately shimmering light effect. There is the name of the manufacturer and the designer written under the Offset-printed graphic with decent letters. Paper Collective Poster Whale Reprise: Subtle Message Eason wanted to make people think of the extinction of the whales with the subtle and ominous composition and he wanted to question humans in the ecosystem. Jan Kurtz Möbelvertrieb GmbH Jan Kurtz - Speaker Concrete Picture
The Speaker picture by Jan Kurtz is a piece of pure contemporary art. Bertrand Jayr introduces street art into our living rooms. Bertrand Jayr is popular because of two things: He translates existing forms into new contexts and he likes to work with concrete. Why shouldn’t pictures be made of concrete as well? The used lightweight concrete with its characteristics reminds us of a screen instead of something made of concrete because it is tire-proof, pressure-resistant and relatively flexible – but it is also rougher, more heavy and impressing than every other screen. Street art at home The designer Bertrand Jayr erases the borderlines between art and design. With his art prints on concrete, the French designer transferred street art into our homes for the manufacturer Jan Kurtz. The Speaker picture from Jan Kurtz appears with Graffiti style. The motive looks like done with a spray-template (among experts: Stencil), making the street art look more authentic, reminding us of famous artists like Banksy. Each one of the pictures has its own “grain”, since they are made of concrete, becoming unique, while the material also surprises experienced art enthusiasts in the context of wall art.
