Flos - AIM LED Cable + Plug
A design object as a pendant lamp: The AIM LED Cable + Plug by Flos , made by the design brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, questions two fundamental principles of the light design. The first principle is the geometric middle of the light point: Lamps are mostly hanged central in the middle of the room. For the AIM LED Cable + Plug this doesn’t matter anymore since the grounding is achieved through a long cable. For the second principle, both designers have to break with the assumption that the cable is a pure means to an end, and therfore has to be hidden: The AIM by Flos presents a cable forest with impetuous lines and aesthetic function. The head of the AIM LED Cable + Plug can be mounted at any desired height with a changing inclination – this absolute freedom allows unique combinations. The installations, which thereby emerge, remind us already more of an artwork than of a design! A style, which used a lot of precious materials such as marble, brass, precious woods and patterns.” And that’s how the material is as precious as the design: The round mirror is framed into the brass. Officina Alessi - Trayscape
Trayscape is a tray for the kitchen and the living room. It was designed by the Chinese design studio Urbanus for the Italian manufacturer Alessi and belongs to the project “(Un)Forbidden City”. The name of the project reveals it all: Alessi goes China! And the truth is, Alessi presents a utile item with Asian design philosophy with the Trayscape tray. Trayscape looks like a table sculpture, empty, expecting something that is to come. A dark stone, modelled like a sea, which is surrounded by soft mountains, like a traditional Chinese garden. Turned inside out, to be used as tray, the reliefs of the landscape become the surfaces on the table – and the slightly arched, flat surface, which served as base before, becomes the place for tasty meals. Both opposite souls of “Trayscape” – the contemplative expectation of an empty object and the functionality of the tray – are only understandable separately; they exclude each other. Liu Xiaodu, Meng Yan, Wang Hui of the design studio Urbanis designed a tray, which connects Asian philosophy with everyday objects with their Trayscape they designed for the Officina Alessi collection. The tray is made out of melamine resin.

    urbanature - high garden
Designer Jörg Brachmann challenged the problem of plants inside and outside of the house. The unusual garden keeps flowers at a height of 1,48, where you will be able to see them at eye-level. Urbanature is responsible for eye-catchers inside and outside of the house Green plants ensure freshness and comfort inside of the house, but they also cause some problems sometimes: Garden herbs and pot plants block the windows so that we aren’t really motivated to remove them for fresh air. Heaters at windows dry the soil in the plant pots so that one witted leave is followed by another one. And the summer sun will burn the dried leaves in the end. If all of it blocks our green thumbs, the high garden is a solution. Place it wherever you like in the room for the plants to be seen at eye-level all the time. It is a real eye-catcher – whether in the kitchen, the corridor or the office. The high garden also looks gorgeous outside: You won’t need to stoop to plant it, there will be no snails or rodents anymore. Instead, your plants are installed on the balcony, the terrace or in the garden as they deserve. The high garden: A garden on stalks The high garden is made of five cachepots for five stacks turned inside of each other. One connection elemebt keeps the stacks together in the middle of the object. The cachepots are made of white or grey concrete and the sticks of massive oak wood. Each high garden is handmade, as usual for all the urbanature products. The cachepots are suitable for planting pots of max. 13 Cm diameter. The woman on the picture becomes a city, a landscape, an abstraction. Under the offset-print there is the name of the manufacturer and of the design studio with a decent writing. The Invisible poster was made of 200g/qm Munken Pure paper. The uncoated paper has archive quality and it is FSC-certified, of course. Paper Collective produces the art print with the Nordic environment-protection seal, similar to the Blue Angel from Germany. The Paper Collective poster Invisible is limited to 300 pieces all over the world. Moreover a part of the gain is donated to charity organizations chosen by the designers – in the case of the abstract women’s poster from A Mile In The Woods, the donation goes to Amnesty International.

    Artek - 100 Paravent
Alvaar Aalto had nature as a model when he started to design, contrasting the style of the followers of the Bauhaus movement. His designs are organic creations that are influenced by the Scandinavian landscape. Alvar Aalto designed the 100 Paravent for the Finnish company Artek in 1938, which he founded. The total length of 2 metres and the height of 1.5 metres can be rolled in order to be stored without the need of much space. The flexible plywood processing of pine wood is the reason why the screen can be placed alone in a room, without holding walls. Thereby the screen has the organic form of waves. This is a thing that distinguishes the designer’s creations and architectural work. The flexible 100 Paravent by Artek made of clear painted pine wood is able to separate rooms elegantly, to re-design them or change their structure. If the screen isn’t used, it is easily rolled to be stored. This is how the room divider perfectly unifies the basic elements of the design of Alvar Aalto: Functionality paired with natural materials and an organic shape.

    Paper Collective - Whale Reprise
A whale and a bubble in a space that really emphasize the motive. There is a deep message behind what seems simple on the first sight, on the Whale Reprise poster from paper Collective. Greg Eason has the rare quality of letting simple drawn images seem highly complex and of offering them impressively roomy depth. The British artist explains about his poster Whale Reprise: ”I re-adopted the whale pattern from a picture I already drew in 2011. That’s the reason for the name Reprise.” The designer laid his whale on a grey background and added a bubble, which looks like a human head and which softly breaks the grey colour of the image with its delicately shimmering light effect. There is the name of the manufacturer and the designer written under the Offset-printed graphic with decent letters. Paper Collective Poster Whale Reprise: Subtle Message Eason wanted to make people think of the extinction of the whales with the subtle and ominous composition and he wanted to question humans in the ecosystem. All of it in an artistic context, without raised index finger. It is only suitable that a part of the avails goes to the WWF. The Whale Reprise poster is made of heavy 200 g/qm Munken Lynx paper. This kind of paper has archive quality and it is naturally FSC-certified. Paper Collective produces the art print with the Nordic seal of environmentally friendliness, similar to the Blue Angel of Germany. The Paper Collective “Whale Reprise” poster is limited to 300 pieces all over the world. Moreover one part of the gain of it is donated to a charitable organization, chosen by the designer – in the case of the Whale Reprise poster from Note Design Studio, the donation goes to the World Wildlife Foundation.

Menu Design Menu - Turning Table
A simple side table with an included storage possibility for magazines, remote controls, chocolate or whatever you need in the living room. That’s the idea behind the Turning Table by Menu. The German designer Theresa Arns wanted to design a side table which was versatile because of its size and the storage function. The Turning Table perfectly fits in every room – next to the sofa in the living room or a bedside table for books, magazines and handkerchiefs. But the Turning Table also suits waiting rooms, conference rooms, cafés or restaurants because of its elegant design. Elegant opening mechanism The storage container under the table top is easily opened, by means of turning the top around a leg. The Turning Table consists of white oak wood with diagonal struts of brass or out of dark ash wood with diagonal struts of copper. “I was looking for an unpretentious but elegant way to open the storage container under the top plate and got the idea to open the lid by rotating it around one of the legs. The metal sticks helps stabilize the construction and complements the expression of the wooden table.” Explained Theresa Arns.

Norm Steel Clock by Menu is a light and simplistic clock with steel hands - designed by the Copenhagen-based simplicity lovers at Norm Architects. Minimalism is not a modern style. Minimalism has been the norm in many cultures all over the globe since the beginning of civilization. People have strived continually for material poverty as a way to inner luxury. Reduction and perfection have been the main goal for both craftsmen and inventors – because avoiding the irrelevant meant emphasising the important. Norm Architects aim for geometrical purity, a simple naturalness and a reduced authenticity for a sense of calm and repose – which is clearly seen in the Steel Wall Clock, designed by the Danish manufacturer Menu. The powder coated steel looks matt and the soft colours with slightly contrasting pointers remain decently in the visual background. These qualities make the Menu Steel Wall Clock look timeless: It is a master example for the soft minimalism followed by Norm.

Jan Kurtz Möbelvertrieb GmbH Jan Kurtz - Speaker Concrete Picture
The Speaker picture by Jan Kurtz is a piece of pure contemporary art. Bertrand Jayr introduces street art into our living rooms. Bertrand Jayr is popular because of two things: He translates existing forms into new contexts and he likes to work with concrete. Why shouldn’t pictures be made of concrete as well? The used lightweight concrete with its characteristics reminds us of a screen instead of something made of concrete because it is tire-proof, pressure-resistant and relatively flexible – but it is also rougher, more heavy and impressing than every other screen. Street art at home The designer Bertrand Jayr erases the borderlines between art and design. With his art prints on concrete, the French designer transferred street art into our homes for the manufacturer Jan Kurtz. The Speaker picture from Jan Kurtz appears with Graffiti style. The motive looks like done with a spray-template (among experts: Stencil), making the street art look more authentic, reminding us of famous artists like Banksy. Each one of the pictures has its own “grain”, since they are made of concrete, becoming unique, while the material also surprises experienced art enthusiasts in the context of wall art.
