Vitra Wooden Dolls By Alexander Girard
Design Alexander Girard, 1963. Solid firwood, hand painted. Made in Poland by Vitra. Alongside Charles and Ray Eames as well as George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures in post-War American design. The focus of his broad oeuvre was on textile design, and a key source of inspiration for him was his passion for the popular art of South America, Asia and East Europe. The Wooden Dolls, which Girard created for his own home in Santa Fe and made himself, are likewise inspired by his own extensive collection of works of popular art. Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally intended only for personal use. Based on documents and originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the partly joyful, partly grim-looking company of dolls is now coming out as a limited edition as a charming enhancement to any interior. Alexander Girard was educated in Europe as an architect. Returning to the United States in 1932, his designs defined a new kind of ?"opulent modernism," a look that became synonymous with 1960s America. His pioneering work in fabric design as well as his innovative commercial and residential interiors, captivated the public with their theatricality. Girard described himself as ?"a reasonable and sane functionalist, tempered by irrational frivolity." Each doll is delivered with a brochure in a high-quality, printed wooden box. Nanimarquina Stone Wool Rugs
Design Nani Marquina. 100% New Zealand wool, hand tufted. Handmade by Nanimarquina. Wool stones running through the floors of a contemporary family home that seeks difference through natural references. This series also plays with paradox, creating smooth river pebbles with rounded edges that adapt to long corridors. Their irregular contours and selection of colors make changeable combinations possible, where you can jump from stone to stone, as if under the surface there was a stream to cross. Their earth tones adapt to any decorative style, bucking trends and clinging to the most basic things in our world. Wool from New Zealand sheep is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable fiber. This beautiful wool is hypoallergenic, it is easy to care for, ages well and holds its color. It also minimized noise levels, while it creates a relaxing and comfortable environment. Hand tufting is a manual weaving process that uses a pistol-shaped contraption. The rug's design is made over a taut cotton fabric and weaved with a tufting gun, which pushes and cuts sections of wool thread that are fastened to the base with a layer of latex. Nanimarquina was founded in 1987 focusing on offering rugs to a world that is interested in creativity, quality and innovation. Today, Nanimarquina is one of the leading companies in the contemporary rugs sector. Under the premise of "reuse, reduce, recycle", they pay the utmost attention to caring for and preserving the environment that surrounds us. All of their rugs are hand made in countries with great traditions of craftsmanship. Nanimarquina also guarantees that no child labor is used in the manufacturing of their rugs. They also collaborate actively with organizations to further improve standards of living for those directly involved in the process of producing their rugs. Design Khodi Feiz, 2014. Upholstery, steel base. Made in The Netherlands by Artifort. "In a way, I like to see Artifort not as a company in the business of making furniture, but in the business of making history." -Khodi Feiz. The Bras invites you to make yourself comfortable, and embraces you. Reclining and taking it easy, or sitting cosily in a corner, enjoy the relaxation and comfort offered by this beautiful, sleek sofa. One striking feature of the Bras is its unique armrests. The natural form of your arm when gently resting it on an armrest inspired Khodi Feiz to produce this design. After all, your arm doesn't bend at a perfect right angle; it bends at different joints in an angular curve, just like the Bras armrest. The seat, backrest, and armrests are upholstered separately and only connected to each other at a later stage. This emphasizes the sleek curves of the sofa even more, and gives the design a light and unique character. The optional cushions give the sofa a playful accent, and the footstool offers space for outstretched legs or on its own. Khodi Feiz was born in Iran. He graduated from Syracuse University in Industrial Design. After working for Texas Instruments Design Center and later joining Philips Design in the Netherlands, he founded feiz design studio with graphic designer Anneko Feiz - van Dorssen.
