The Steelwood series from Magis is understood as reaction to the great trend of plastic furniture. To prove that it is also possible with other materials, modern Steelwood furniture was created. What has been strictly guarded in the case of the Steelwood chairs has only been lightly touched by the world famous design brothers Bouroullec at the table: Because metal is only a connecting element between frame and top for the table – the connections of the Steelwood table play a dominant role in the construction. The frame itself (also the legs and cross members) are still made out of massive beech wood, according to regulations. These are available in a natural colour (on demand) as well as black or white lacquered. The table top consists of robust HPL laminate. The result is a timeless table that knows how to convince, especially in combination with the Steelwood chairs.

Magis Design Magis - Steelwood Shelving System
The Steelwood family by Magis is a reaction to the meanwhile wide spread trend of producing furniture out of plastic. Magis has also produced many plastic products in its manufacturing history, but in this case, the designers wanted the further development of something different and new. The French designers and brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec developed the Steelwood family as the name reveals, out of metal and wood. Together both materials for an exceptional combination since wood and metal contrast each other, but still being a perfect fulfill. Magis produces the successful Steelwood family since 2008; this one was enlarged by a shelving system in 2009. The principle of the shelving system is based on modularity. Each module consists of pillars and diagonal rods out of massive beech (natural or colour lacquered), connection joints out of epoxide lacquered steel panel as well as bases out of MDF. The construction box principle enables numerous variants. A single module possesses 2 deposits and can furthermore be used as single side table or as night table. A presentable sideboard can for example be constructed out of 3 boards over each other and 3 modules besides each other. Magis delivers the most different pre-manufactured sizes up to complete shelving walls with 6 deposit boards over each other and 6 besides each other (H 210 cm, L 358 cm). The shelf is always delivered unassembled.

Magis Cyborg Club Armchair With Wicker Back
Design Marcel Wanders, 2011. Air-molded polycarbonate, wicker back. Made in Italy by Magis. A cyborg is an organism that has both artificial and natural systems. The term was coined in 1960 by Manfred Clynes. In 1965, D.S. Halacy's Evolution of the Superman featured an introduction which spoke of a 'bridge...between mind and matter.' Fictional cyborgs are portrayed as a synthesis of organic and synthetic parts. Often their presence calls into question the difference between humans and machines as concerned with morality, free will, and empathy. The friction we feel between the natural and the artificial world is in fact a misconception; as there is no artificial world, there is only a natural world under the influence of its very own nature. Marcel Wanders grew up in Boxtel, the Netherlands and graduated cum laude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. His fame started with the iconic Knotted Chair in 1996. He is now designing for the biggest European contemporary design manufacturers including Moooi of which he is also art director and co-owner. He works on architectural, interior design and consumer home appliances. His designs have been selected for the most important design collections and exhibitions around the world. The Italian pastry inspired the name of the Magis Pizza Table: The borders are thicker than the middle, as well as the culinary model. The clear and simultaneously organic appealing design is typical for the designer of the Magis Pizza Table, Naoto Fukasawa. The Japan created a table, whose voluminous top interacts excitingly with the thin feet. The Pizza Table by Magis serves as couch or side table since it is available in two heights. Magis produces the Pizza Table with a table top out of ABS and a frame out of lacquered steel wire. The higher borders possess the additional advantage that the things on the table won’t fall down easily.

Magis Design Magis - Pila Chair
The brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec designed Pila for Magis in 2012. The filigree and weightless form of the chair is a wonderful contrast to the natural wooden material it is made of (first production 2013). Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec especially thought of minimalistic elegance when they designed their Pila chair: A design as elegant as possible with as little material as possible. That’s the reason why the Magis Pila chair isn’t only very weightless, but also the design gives the impression of being floating. The ash plywood made seat is carried by four filigree feet out of massive oak wood. The backrest, also consisting of plywood, ends up in the chair’s feet. A filigree aluminium construction, which is hidden under the seat, ensures stability. Pila is available in different editions in natural or stained ash wood.

    Magis Baguette Table
Design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2011. Cast aluminum legs & support, various top options. Made in Italy by Magis. The Baguette Table is a dining table that is so svelte it seems to float, but it's actually strong enough to hold an entire buffet. French designers Ronan and Ewan Bouroullec created the look with a long, slender top fastened to cast aluminum legs that create the illusion of delicacy. The two brothers, Ronan and Erwan, have been working together since 1999. Their collaboration is a constant dialogue, nourished by their single identities and strived towards a common goal. Today, the Bouroullec brothers work with numerous manufacturers such as Vitra, Cappellini, Issey Miyake, Magis, Ligne Roset, Habitat and the Kréo Gallery. They were named "Creator of the Year" in 2002, elected "designer of the year" in 2003 and have won multiple other awards. Their creations have been exhibited in many collective or solo exhibitions and are part of some permanent museum collections around the world. Baguette for most of us recalls a crusty French loaf, but it was the original definition of the word-"wand"-that inspired this table, which is available in two lengths: 62" and 80". The long, thin top tops are offered in MDF white or black (1"-thick), solid glass painted white (.75"-thick), extra transparent glass (.6"-thick), quartzite (.75"-thick), or Italian ardesia slate (.75"-thick). The cast aluminum legs and frame can be polished (indoor use only) or painted white or black (indoor/outdoor). 28" h | 62" or 80" L | 33" w.

The intention of the brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec was to design an aluminium table frame but to consume as little aluminium as possible for this – therefrom the graceful shape of the frame. The effect is not only its appearance, but much more a graphic feature, because it appears as if massive table boards of four smooth (eating-)bars were supporting it. Moreover converging feet in a triangle and the rectangular table top follow a strict, geometric shaping. The Italian company Magis produces the Baguette table in two sizes (table top length: 160 Cm or 205 cm). The table feet consist of aluminium, the traverse out of profile aluminium. The frames are available in glossy polished or white / black lacquered editions. This last one can also be used outdoors with the according table top. Also the materials the tables are made of are exclusive: From less expensive MDF board (white of black lacquered), over glass tops (white dyed through) up to noble table boards out of natural stone (quartzite or Italian slate), Magis offers suitable solutions for every interior.
