Peter F. Dellert "Oval Tripod Table" Wood Side Table
This piece is a protoype for a coffee/ cocktail table in the Tripod Series I was doing several years ago. I made smaller and larger tables where the triangular top was very symmetrical, but in this one I pushed the design to a place where the top would fit into a more traditional rectangular format, between couches for instance. The top is quarter sawn white oak and the legs are polychromed poplar, and are also three sided, shaped by hand after being turned on the lathe. The legs are then rasped and painted with casein paints in several colors, the last a grass green.Finished with satin lacquer that is water and alcohol resistant.

Evoking the elegance and stillness of a Heron in pose, this table is part of a Marsh series done in collaboration with my wife, ceramic artist Alex Kurtz. The Alder wood floating-top console table has a rich light brown tone and has a hand made ceramic tile insert of a Heron, done by Alex. An especially rich inset of spalted maple in the top gives the impression of the heron standing in the morning mists. Inset panels of spalted maple in the front and back skirt. Mortise & tenon construction. A walnut wood mitered edging surrounds the Heron tile. Hand rubbed poly/oil finish. The inset glazed ceramic chop is our signature to the piece.

These legs do more than just stand around. They have a function as well as form by supporting a stone tabletop. The legs are made from recycled stainless steel pieces which have been cut to shape with abrasive blades, hand formed with hammers and an anvil, then TIG welded together. The top is a polished granite like stone which has mottled colors of light and very dark green. If needed, clean the stone top with soap and water, clean the metal with a cleaner recommended for stainless such as Bar Keepers Friend, a citrus based cleaner, or just use soap and water.

The materials in this piece are Musical Grade AAAAA Western Quilted Maple, Walnut, Cocobolo and Wenge. An elegant piece of quilted Maple that seemingly floats over its arched base. The legs are hand planed. The base was built of Walnut-Cocobolo-Walnut fusion in order to work as a continuous transition to the Cocobolo arches, which are the key design element. The 7/8th inch Quilted Maple was planed down on the edges to give it more of a sense of lightness. The cross members are connected to the main arches with Wenge square pegs. The beauty of the piece lies in its simple elegance, its five pieces of wood connected to the legs with a sense of seeming effortlessness. Paradoxically, the piece is quite complicated and unique in its construction in that there are no right angles with which to reference true square or true plumb. The two basic techniquesare used to achieve this is to establish true square on a separate board to which the artist uses as a gluing matrix and through the extensive use of a carpenters level to achieve a plumb line and a flat plane for the top. The basic construction techniques include compressed dowels to attach the top to the base, through dado joints to connect the arch to the legs and mortise and tenon to connect the front legs to the back legs. The table is finished in Tung Oil. In addition, while still wet the piece was hand sanded, creating a very smooth finish. To protect the top and to give it added warmth a coat of Maloof oil/wax Finish was used. A high quality furniture oil with UV protection is recommended for the base and top periodically.

John Boak "Tall Table" Wood Side Table
The table was made from a remnant of a glue lam beam for the top. The legs are made from standing-dead aspen. These trees have been scoured by wind and snow, removing all the bark, and polishing the surface to a bone color, with streaks of orange and gray. The artist has carved the lower legs into squared forms. The legs have then been painted with watered-down acrylic paints, using an airbrush. The top has likewise been painted with transparent paints. The grain of the various woods is always visible. The components of the table have been varnished, and the varnish has been rubbed with very light abrasives to produce a matte finish that best reveals the wood. Due to the unique nature of this piece, exact coloration and patterning will vary from piece to piece.

Lara Moore "Bella Bella Coffee Table Bench: Rust Stain" Mixed Media Bench
This bench is made using a layered paper process. The artist starts by milling wood to the dimensions required. Then she attaches thin sheer tissue papers in various colors to each other, and to the wood. She has created a unique paste that allows the colors to blend together providing the velvety texture indicative of her work. Each design element is hand cut with scissors from paper as well. Every blade of grass, spiral, and branch leaf is meticulously cut by hand attached with that same special paste. She seals the designed piece with a thick glossy, industrial grade resin. The resin makes this work totally functional, heat, alcohol, and water resistant. Her work is meant to be used and is easily cleaned with a glass cleaner or a soft cloth and soapy water.
