Bensen Torii Chair With Wood Seat
Design Niels Bendtsen. Black stained ash. Made in Italy by Bensen. Torii is a simple yet subtly sophisticated wood chair, defined by its closely spaced back legs, broad seat, and small arched backrest. Its minimal appearance and simple construction hide a surprising amount of comfort and sturdiness, making it suitable for residential and commercial use. Torii is the Japanese name for the characteristic wood entrance arches to Shinto shrines in Japan, and translates directly into English as "bird perch". This motif perfectly describes the chairs distinct proportions and traditional joinery, and the sense of harmony and calm inherent in design that is beautifully resolved. Torii is constructed using traditional and advanced joinery techniques producing a thin and light yet sufficiently strong chair. It is available in White Oak, Black stained Ash, and Walnut, with leather or fabric upholstered seat. The finish is an advanced low build water-based polyurethane that gives the wood a natural open-grain appearance, which is smooth to the touch and highly durable. Wood seat Torii chair is only offered in Black stained Ash. 19.5" L | 19.25" d | 29.5" h | seat: 17.5" h. black-stained ash with wood seat: $440.00 each + free shipping in the continental U.S.

The overall design of the collection gives an impression of lightness and elegance, although mantaining stability and strength. Carl Hansen & Son Hans Wegner Ch88 Stacking Chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1955. Solid wood back, wood veneer seat, steel. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. To mark the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner's birth, Carl Hansen & Son has launched Wegner's CH88 chair - a 1955 design that has, to date, existed only as a prototype. The CH88 is versatile both in terms of its appearance and usability thanks to its numerous finish, frame, and room placement options. Characteristically, the upper structure features a steam-bent wooden backrest for back support, with slight curvatures of the backrest's ends providing a natural resting place for the arms. The steel frame, with straight back legs, supports an oval-shaped wooden seat. This blend of materials, combined with a minimalist design, results in a light, organic, industrial expression. And the new, stackable design (stackable up to 4 chairs) offers a valuable benefit. The CH88 is available in beech and oak in a range of finishes. The frame is available in stainless steel, black powder coating and chrome, and the seat with optional leather or textile upholstery. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller´s architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers´ Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959. 30.1" h | 17.5" d | 22.4" w | seat: 17.5" h.

Vitra Jill Chair With Tube Base
Design Alfredo Haberli, 2011. Veneer wood shell, tubular steel base, plastic glides. Made in Germany by Vitra. In the 1940s, Charles & Ray Eames opened up an entire universe of possibilities for the design world with their breakthrough success in the three-dimensional molding of plywood. Some seventy years later, the new universal chair Jill takes up this manufacturing technique and probes the present-day boundaries. Paying homage to the Eames design, the chair sets new standards made possible by subsequent technological developments. Using a patented process, the cut edges of the ash, oak or walnut veneer are drawn together, bending and flexing the shell until they meet in the middle of the seat. An opening remains in the angle between seat and back, with the thickness of the plywood tapering towards the top of the chair. This gives Jill its remarkable degree of flexibility and comfort, which is unexpected from a wooden seat shell. The non-stacking bases (Wood, Fourstar and Tube) give the chair a contemporary look. Optional padded seat covers provide for even greater comfort. Snaps on the underside of the seat allow for easy removal and reattachment of the seat covers. Vitra Hal Armchair Wood
Design Jasper Morrison, 2014. Die-cast aluminum, polypropylene, wood. Made in Germany by Vitra. Jasper Morrison has added a new option to the HAL chair family: the HAL Armchair. Based on the HAL seat shell, he developed an organic one-piece shell that takes on a distinctive look of its own with the curved armrests 'growing' out from the sides - while still bearing a clear family resemblance to the rest of the line. The shell construction responds to the physical forces operating on the seat and provides maximum stability and superb comfort with a minimum amount of material. Born in London, Jasper Morrison studied design at the Royal College of Art and at the HdK in Berlin. Editor of the Design Year Book in 1999 with a passion for the history of design. Morrison's objects provide a quiet contrast to the creative exuberance of the Eighties. The visual restraint, high functionalism and constructive simplicity attract attention to his work. Hal armchair wood features a non-stackable wooden base in light oak, dark oak or black-pigmented walnut. The connecting element between the shell and base is die-cast aluminum, powder-coated in dim grey. The Hal armchair family is offered in a choice of four base options: tubular steel or wood as well as a five-star base on castors. The cutouts underneath the armrests make it possible to stack the HAL Armchair version with a tubular steel base. Hal armchair wood: 24.5" w | 20" d | 31" h | seat: 18.25" h | 19" d.

Vitra Jill Chair With Wood Base
Design Alfredo Haberli, 2011. Veneer wood shell, solid wood base, plastic glides. Jill wood features a four-leg solid wood base in natural oak or black ash and match the seat shell. Seat mount in chocolate color with black glides with the option of plastic or felt. Bernhardt Design Mitt Lounge Chair
Design Claudia + Harry Washington, 2013. Upholstery, casters (wheels), loop cording. Made in USA by Bernhardt Design. Often very specific requirements result in the most interesting design. Some of the most enduring furniture was designed for a particular purpose - think Arne Jacobsen and the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Successful products address particular problems, but also have relevance beyond those immediate solutions. Such is the case with Harry and Claudia Washington's new Mitt lounge - a very personal chair that far transcends its original context. The chair's comfortable and relaxed form, reminiscent of a baseball glove, served as the inspiration and provided its name, Mitt. True to form, stitching and tailoring plays an integral part in its appeal. The soft profile of the chair is highlighted by a distinctive loop cording around the perimeter. The design is relaxed, casual and open, which allows users to sit in different ways, depending on the situation. Harry met Claudia in 2001, while they were both earning degrees in interior design at the University of Applied Arts in San Salvador. They founded their design studio DUE in October 2004 & FabricaDUE in 2005, which operates through artisan techniques and local manual labor to manufacture the designs generated in the studio. Their works include residential interior architecture, space planning, retail interior design, and the creation of branding concepts for retail stores. In El Salvador, both Harry and Claudia are frequent lecturers at the University of Applied Arts, The Esen Business School, and the Monica Herrera Marketing School. Their works are exhibited at the Marte Museum of Art in San Salvador. Mitt is fully upholstered and features weight-locking castors, a distinctive loop cording and available with or without a matching handle. Vitra Jill Chair With Fourstar Base
Design Alfredo Haberli, 2011. Veneer wood shell, die-cast aluminum, plastic glides. Jill with four-star base features a polished die-cast aluminum base, seat support in chocolate color and base in polished or chocolate color. Seat shell offered in natural oak, black pigmented walnut or black ash. The chair includes reverse-action pneumatic lift and glides in basic dark with the option of plastic or felt. Design Charles Pollock, 2012. Polished stainless steel frame, leaded glass top. Made in USA by Bernhardt Design. Following the successful 2012 launch of the CP Lounge Collection for Bernhardt Design, Pollock expands his breadth with his first-ever series of occasional tables. Bernhardt Design debuted the cp.3 table collection. One of Pollock's guiding principles is purity, and he often refers to his designs as "simple lines in space." This minimalist philosophy is evident in Pollock's new tables. Pared to the essentials, each table is composed of intersecting lines with one special detail. The rectangular crossbars are offset slightly at the intersection with the tubular legs, and the ends are curved to emulate each leg's radius. "Designing tables was something new for me, so I decided to take a new approach. Much of my work has been about reducing forms down to a single line. These tables are about using lines to build something up. The joint detail implies they are assemblages," says Pollock. "Nothing in life emerges fully formed; everything is a work in progress." The cp.3 tables are available as 42 inch diameter coffee tables or 22 inch diameter side tables, with polished stainless steel bases with 1/2 inch flat edge leaded glass tops. 21" dia. | 18" h.

Design Hansandfranz, 2013. Stainless steel frame, upholstery. Made in USA by Bernhardt Design. "Their work is all about simplicity and purity and since that is what we strive for… I knew we were in good hands." - Jerry Helling. The Cycle family was based on the reduction of elements. Following a geometric approach, the designers wanted to create something that appears very light yet elegant. In creating the design, every line and every detail was critical. Hansandfranz spent much time working on the juncture of the metal base as it turns to meet the upholstery, making sure it was perfect to make the piece work. The Cycle family of products is comprised of a round stool, round bench and an oval bench. In each, a tailored upholstered cushion floats above two symmetric loops of stainless steel. The exception is the elegant elongation of one metal loop to create the oval bench. The sheer simplicity of the benches and stools allow them to blend into a furniture landscape or to stand out as strong accents when they are upholstered in active fabrics or colorful leathers. Munich's brightest new talents, hansandfranz make their first appearance on the American design stage with a collection of benches and stools for Bernhardt design. The twenty-something design duo is comprised of Munich natives Horst Wittmann and Konstantin Landuris. Their work came to the forefront at the Salone Satellite in 2007 and was quickly followed by an appearance at ICFF Studio in New York. Cycle stool: 23.6" w | 23.6" d | 18.25" h | seat: 18" dia.

    Moroso Shitake Stool
Design Marcel Wanders, 2007. Rotational molded recyclable polyethylene. Made in Italy by Moroso. Shitake is a mushroom which grows on tree trunks and in Dutch its name means "a bench for elves". Marcel Wanders has experimented with the potential offered by rotational molding to design a stool with an irregular, ironic shape which is reminiscent of a mushroom. The result is fun, irreverent yet enriched by the careful working of its surface which has been decorated to give the impression that it is covered in raised embroidery. The stools are hollow so that they can be filled with water, sand or other materials and resealed with the removable cap. Marcel Wanders grew up in Boxtel, the Netherlands and graduated cum laude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. His fame started with the iconic Knotted Chair in 1996. He is now designing for the biggest European contemporary design manufacturers including Moooi of which he is also art director and co-owner. He works on architectural, interior design and consumer home appliances. His designs have been selected for the most important design collections and exhibitions around the world. Moroso Moon Small Armchair
Design Tokujin Yoshioka, 2011. Rotational molded recyclable polyethylene. Made in Italy by Moroso. Voids and spaces move in perfect formal harmony. Shifting, flowing lines give the Moon chair a profile which seems evanescent rather than solid, absorbing and diffusing a faint, refined glow. Size, on Moon, is an illusion. From the side, the curves of the seat merge with the cylindrical form of the base to bring to mind a flower in bloom, a concession to the organic in this rigorously geometric order. From the front, the glow from the seat as the light appears and disappears is enchantingly magical. What makes the form so original is the reverberations that emanate from the different planes. It is a new form of three-dimensionality which enhances the stylish lines and the moon-like quality of the piece which originates in the interaction of the solid with the evanescent. Tokujin Yoshioka, is a great "couturier" with a meticulous eye for detail, he is a designer whose delicate, poetic, elegant designs help us to dream. He likes to astonish us by producing surprising effects from simple, almost banal objects which he interprets and uses in an extraordinary way by means of his ability to see beyond and to reinterpret the world through the characteristic poetry and harmony of Japanese culture. Carl Hansen & Son Hans Wegner Ch88 Stacking Chair With Upholstered Seat
Design Hans Wegner, 1955. Solid wood back, upholstery, steel. Cycle round bench: 41.8" w | 41.8" d | 18.25" h | seat: 36" dia.

Herman Miller® Eames® Molded Fiberglass Armchair Rocker
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1948. Molded fiberglass, metal frame, solid wood rockers. Made by Herman Miller® "The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests." -Charles Eames. Thanks to a new proprietary process of producing fiberglass, Herman Miller is once again able to produce the Eames original 1950's Molded Fiberglass Chair safely by means of a less volatile, monomer-free "dry bind" process. Like the original shell chairs, the new fiberglass finish has the same covetable surface variation and tell-tale fiberglass striation that have attracted avid vintage collectors for decades. Available in both the arm and side chair formats in eight archival colors, the chairs can be configured with a choice of wire, dowel leg, stacking, rocker, and 4-leg bases. An array of trim, finely tailored Hopsak fabrics designed by Alexander Girard, Herman Miller's Textile Director from 1952 to 1973, round out the collection of shell customization options, fully restoring the integrity of the original 1953 shell chair offerings. All chairs can be recycled through the Herman Miller Take Back Program. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." With the molded plastic, fiberglass, and wood shell chairs -as well as the wire chair- the Eames' have created a universal response to what everyone wants from a chair: a simple, gracious form that fits any body and every place. 25" w | 27.25" d | 26.5" h | seat: 16.25" h.

    Vitra Verner Panton Visiona Stool
Design Verner Panton, 1970. Polyurethane foam, polystyrene core, MDF base. Made in Germany by Vitra. "Most people spend their lives living in dreary, beige conformity, mortally afraid of using color. The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting." -Verner Panton. In 1970, Danish designer Verner Panton was commissioned by Bayer AG to create Visiona 2, a living landscape that became known as one of the most radical future living scenarios of the 20th century. Inspired by Pop Culture and Science Fiction, Visiona 2 brought the societal transformation of the 1960s and 1970s into the private living sphere, instead of clear room divisions and conventional furniture, Panton applied colorful upholstery elements that projected a relaxed, informal lifestyle. Verner Panton designed the Visiona Stool as part of the interior installation created in 1970 for his legendary Visiona exhibition in Cologne. The compact upholstered stool not only provides practical and comfortable seating but also adds vibrant color accents that can be coordinated with any interior, thanks to the large selection of fabric colors. The unobtrusive geometric shape allows the Visiona Stool to be paired with a wide range of furnishings. Due to its light weight, it can be easily repositioned and combined into spontaneous groupings. The robust fabric cover is secured with an elastic band, which makes it simple to remove and clean. 16" h | 16.5" dia.
